Hi does anyone know if it is possible to be a model for semi permanent makeup training? Has anyone done this and was it OK? Thanks

Yes, I've modelled for Finishing Touches in Haywards Heath; I modelled for Areola tattooing and there was no charge; they also train in regular semi-permanent make-up like eyebrows, eyeliner, lips, etc as well as the paramedical tattooing that I modelled for.

But it's possible to model for other companies too, e.g. Nouveau Contour, although I think Nouveau Contour charge their models a reduced rate for the treatment.

Thanks Ruth. How did you apply for this? I believe they do training in Yorkshire aswell, which is nearer to me, but I wouldn't mind if I had to travel. Are they really well supervised then?

The treatment I received at Finishing Touches was very good too; I've had 3 sessions for areola tattooing so far; I'll probably need a top-up session at some stage soon. There were no more than 2 or 3 people being trained at once on me, supervised by one of their expert trainers.

I think it's Nouveau Contour who train in Yorkshire. But the Finishing Touches training centre is down in Haywards Heath, Sussex.

I can only speak for my experience with Finishing Touches, where the level of supervision was excellent; hopefully other people on here have experience of Nouveau Contour and will be able to advise accordingly.

As for how I applied - I originally sent them an email saying I was keen to get the treatment done and asked if they ever needed models - then they replied to my email and gave me an appointment on their next training session, a couple of months or so away.

Thanks for the info Ruth. Have emailed both so will see what happens. May be someone will come along with experience of other places and what they charge.

Thanks Vix.

I *have* modelled for Nouveau lashes though, at some one-to-one training at Angelina's salon, Angelina's Hair and Beauty - Kidderminster, Worcestershire - Welcome in Kidderminster last week - I think the trainer's name was Jodie and she was lovely - and she also trains in their semi-permanent make-up too. So if you get her supervising any training for Nouveau, she will probably be excellent too.

The training in Yorkshire is in South Elmsall,
i have modeled twice,
first time was to help someone out but it didn't go too well or take very well,
second time was for correction work, went much better this time and looks like it may even have taken well, but i wont know for sure for another few weeks,
the second time i was there the class was supervised really well, hth

you just phone up and ask to speak to Margaret, and she will put you on the list for models and let you know dates when they have classes, hth

Thanks Loubylou. Is that finishing touches or Nouveau Contour? Is the South Elmsall number on the website as I didn't see an address. Could I also ask what is the cost please?

Loubylou modelled for Nouveau Contour (I remember her telling me about it)...

I have sent you a pm hun, we are not allowed to put up price on threads, hth

Is there a charge for models at finishing touches (not asking how much)? Also do you have to pay for the follow up visit? Thanks.

I didn't have to pay for the areola tattooing modelling, nor the follow up visits I went to for that. Not sure if they charge for facial SPMU modelling or not though - you are probably best asking them.

Thanks Ruth I will ask when they call me

Modelling sounds like a good idea at the time, a few months down the road when you see perfect work you wish you had not.

We get them come into our salon all the time and ask about correcting the work or making it better, some of it has been carried out by people in classes and some of it has been carried out by the biggest names in the business and its not nice.

Until you see this work regularly week in week out its hard to judge, only then can you spot top work, its like everything seeing it all the time constantly, its miles apart, but most are not lucky enough to see this.

The work our lady produces is nonpareil.

That is a very valid point, Susan. In fact I am thinking of paying someone to do my areolae in future, as although the work that was done with me as a model was OK, there are things which I think could have been done better, e.g. one areola is noticeably darker than the other at the moment.

But the basic shape and colour are OK.

I doubt if I would be happy being a model for SPMU work on my *face* though, unless I was certain of the calibre of the person doing the work (which you can't usually guarantee as a model)...

Yes Ruth you are right,

Work cant always be corrected easily its not always a case of finding a good person after its not right and get them to fix it, they sometimes have to get sent for laser removal, it ends up costing twice as much as if they had paid a decent person!

A lot of the other erasal removal work, if you look closely can cause scaring, and then it does not look right or it will not hold well going over the top. even after laser you might have to wait 6 months or more after its removed to have the makeup re applied!

We have Heidi Worman, her work is exceptional, 100% of the time.

I genuinely feel sorry for the people who I have seen, its so dishartning as at the time they though it was a good deal.

Hi Susan I understand what you're saying, like everything you get what you pay for. Unfortunately I am not in a position to be able to pay salon prices at the moment so being a model is my only option. Thanks for the advice.

Ruth - I have had my whole nipple tattooed on by the nhs due to having a reconstructed breast after cancer surgery. Fortunately I cannot expect an exact match as my other nipple is the original!!!!!!!!!

I have now had replies from both finishing touches and nouveau contour and the cost is exactly the same for both. Its a bit more than I thought but obviously cheaper than full price. I have gone with FT as the payment for the application and re-touch is seperate, so the initial outlay is less. I am hopefully getting a manchester appointment, and wondered if anyone on here has any experience of FT training in manchester? I am really excited now!!!! Thanks

Hi,
I don't know where you are living but if you can get to model for Finishing Touches I'd jump at it. We do a lot of semipermanent in our clinic and we have had our techs trained with various trainers and they definately give the best training in my opinion. They look after their models just like they are paying clients.

I hope this helps

Sue
