I've been thinking about offering special discount to all nurses who work In the area...does anyone else do this and do you think its a good idea? X

I think it's a great idea, one of our town center hairdressers offers the normal discount to students etc and also to nurses. I wish places did it:hug:

I just think that it would be a nice touch. Market it as giving back to other people In service led industries! :) x

I will probably be shot for saying this but..... Be careful with offers like this as you could end up with a lot of nurses and this could mean that you are working for less money. We are in this to earn a living and you really do need to make sure that there would not be too many nurses taking you up on your offer. Also I would check that they are nurses rather than just someone who has heard about the offer. I am old and cynical with experience of every trick in the book.

It is a lovely thought though! :)

I personally don't do it, although I have clients that are nurses & in service industries (most of them a lot better off than I am!). Firstly you would have to ask for some kind of proof to avoid people trying it on & as the above poster has said you have to make a profit at the end of the day & the last thing any of us need are all our hours being taken up by discounted treatments.

Many nurses work irregular hours so you could give them a discount for off-peak times so that you don't have to discount at peak times.

I agree... These days you may well find that, once they have qualified (and more so if they specialise), nurses could be earning more than you!

It is a lovely thought though and, as the previous poster suggested, maybe you could offer discounts during quiet times to student nurses who don't have as much spare cash as their qualified colleagues.

You may leave yourself open to clients using nurses id to get discount....Or making fake id ....

Great thought but dont under sell your services......xx

Now I know that Nurses do a wonderful job and in my opinion are certainly not paid anywhere near enough for the service that they provide but they are not the only low paid profession in this country (errrrr, Beauty Therapists!)

I just think that it would make other low paid professionals want to know why they were not offered some form of discount too?

Rather than offering certain occupation groups a discount why not look through your appointment book and see where your quiet times are that you'd like to fill then offer all clients, new and existing, the chance to have a reduced price service if they pick those time slots.

Have it on your terms, what suits you.

At the moment I am encouraging clients to come in the evenings as this lets me be a mum during the day, when my little ones are at school I will be offering an incentive to clients who come during the day so I can have my evenings free(ish) to help out with homework etc...

xx
