Split natural nail

Help! One of my friends has split her natural nail right across the middle and it has bled quite a lot she has a plaster over it at the moment do you think i should put an overlay on it bearing in mind there is blood underneath or just use a brush on glue? I don't use the silk wraps or anything like that i use gel L x
