Hi

How do you wise lot get around giving skin tests to a spray tanning party? .. i assume you cant go round to everyone individually days before and ..give them one .. excuse the pun  would you just ask them to sign a consultation card to say they are happy to go ahead without one??

Love this forum .. its like my bible

This is a bit of a dilemma and not the easiest to work around ..however

It would presumably follow that one or more being spray tanned are already customers so presumably a patch test had already been done on them

Option 1
You could send a pack of Q tips by post in advance of the event which have already been soaked in your solution wrapped in cling film to keep it wet and ask the customers with instructions how to do the test and confirm they will have to do it otherwise you cannot spray tan them...you could also on the day get a signed confirmation that they have undertaken their own skin patch test with your solution and confirm no reaction.

Option 2

If this isnt possible or to much of a hassle then you can do something at the event...not ideal but at least some form of due diligence on your part as the therapist it to..... when they arrive do the patch test there and then...if a skin reaction is going to occur it will do so fairly quickly...so while the all have a chat and a giggle,6 bottles of wine and talked about god and the world..oh and that sexy new salesman in the carpet section down at the local B&Q store  and by the time you start spray tanning sufficient time would have lapsed for any "high risk" reactions to have started to show.

Yes you can get a disclaimer signed but the reality is this may not stand up in court...although it will help and particularly if you have undertaken the patch test before spraying....not cast iron protection but would demonstrate that you as a professional did undertake some precautionary testing at least

Option3

Be firm and just refuse to spray tan anyone unless they have had a patch test at least 24hrs before the spray tan application...make them or the host do the running around to you to be tested...it is in their best interests is the way you could sell it to them

I send out patch test bottles. They contain a small amount of solution in for them to apply to themselves prior to the appointment. I send them attached to a pre care card for the hostess to hand out.
