I've just started doing spray tans and most people I've tanned think it's not dark enough.

I used 12% on one of my friends that loves her tan and she said she would have liked to be darker. I used 10% on another friend with strawberry blonde hair and she said it wasn't dark enough.

Do you think I'm not putting enough on? They have an even coverage. I thought that even if I sprayed them twice it would just come out the same as if I had sprayed once.

Have I just got to get to know my DHA's and client expectations?

I think with some solutions the colour guide is quite dark and they get used to seeing themselves that dark and are then disappointed once the colour guide is washed off so I always make sure that i explain to them that this will be the case.

I have clients who feel the same but just go darker next time they have a tan. I have got some clients who now have the LA Disco boosted to 20% so I think you will always get some clients who feel like this. If you have an even coverage then I don't think you are doing anything wrong. My most popular solutions are 14%+ which is really surprising.

20%!!! Wow, that's a lot, but if that's what they want.

No one has come back and said they have any missed parts which is good and I'm telling them to tell me as I need to know what I'm doing wrong.

Everyone has been happy with the coverage, they just want it darker. I have explained the colour guide and they said understood that. Next time we'll just take it up a bit.

I think I'm a bit scared about going to dark so going with the lower percentage. Don't want people walking about saying I turned them orange cos their skin can't take it but then that can backfire too. People could be saying paid so much for a spray tan and you can hardly see it.

How much solution are you using on a full body?

It's been about 50ml or just under each time. This was making me think I'm not using enough as newbie's usually use more.

When I used my Tantrick 12% sample last week I propped up the little sample bottle inside the cup and when I took it out there was still a wee bit in the bottom. She said she had even coverage just not dark enough. But she does love a tan and I can see her going to 18%. Lol.

It seems your technique is right and well I guess if your cutomers skin type can take it and she wants it...well what the heck...maybe its worth a try LOL

Anyways..what you doing up at this time of the morning...you must be as sad as me

Lee Ann are you talking about your cousin who modeled for you ?
she will be able to take the 18% no problem hth

Lol. Yes that's her. I was talking to her brother at the weekend as I sprayed his wife and he said my cousin, his sister, isn't right. Said she'll never be happy with how dark she goes. lol.

It seems my technique maybe isn't all that great. I tanned a friend on Saturday afternoon and she said today the front of her legs are streaky. :( My first thought was shaved legs but says she hasn't shaved them in the past week.

Going to practice on some couch roll tonight and will turn my gun up a wee bit next time.

Oh, and the tan loving cousin thinks her 12% on Wednesday has faded quite fast. I'd say aftercare but she's been having spray tans for years and other tans seem to be lasting with her same aftercare.

Do Collins trick and get the dark mahogany fence paint from B&Q for her lol,

your client that has the streaky legs will have had a residue of oil or moisturiser still left on her skin to get this effect,
if you had missed areas she would just have white lines where you had missed with the solution,
go and have a look for yourself, never just take their word for it as they always make out it is 10 times worse and then this in turn knocks your confidence,
you have been doing great, so my money is on the fact thet she had something on her skin still,

I am going to see her tonight. If it is parts I've missed then I know where to correct next time. And if it's due to residue at least I'll be in the same room to whack her over the head. Lol.

Just saw my streaky friend. She didn't look that bad. She told me she had a lovely hot bath yesterday and used Palmolive shower gel/body wash. I gave her a leaflet with prep and aftercare on it. Seems she just took no notice.

I nearly did. We spent ages looking at all her products to see if they had oil in them. She's going to oil up tonight to strip the tan that's left then I'm going to spray her again on Thursday. I think she's learned her aftercare lesson.
