Hi geeks:hug:,

I was wondering if i could pick your brains please. I am currently doing a night school course in acrylic nails (using nsi prducts) we have the option at the end to do an exam for an in-house qualification with the northern school of beauty which enables you to get insured with the guild :green:.

I was just wondering what kind of standard do these type of qualifications expect you to be at? The exam itself consists of doing a full set on one of your models hands and an in-fill on her other (i.e the model has to have one hand of enhancements whn you arrive).

Also, in the future I do intend to do more courses, but I thought this would be a good start :green:

Thanks in advance, any advice gratefully received :)

Your best bet is to ask your tutor! It depends on the Examing Body you are working to i.e. VTCT ITEC etc. Each have their own criteria for passing. As a general rule your tutor should not enter you for exams before you have completed quite a few sets and done a few 'mock' tests in which you should receive verbal/written feedback on your performance and how to improve. hth:hug:

Thanks for replying , unfortunately it's not my tutor who will be examining us, and she is not sure what the standard to pass is like.

I'm at the end of an 11 week evening course so have done quite a few full sets including my own (and in-fills, back fills etc), I've got my time down and my smile lines are much better than they were. I'm just not sure how 'perfect' you need to be to pass these in-house exams and am wondering if anyone on here has done one?.

Sorry, but it is up to your tutor to find out!!!!! How can you be entered otherwise? What if none of you pass? That won't look good on college achievement targets!

Not your fault hun, dont panic.

How about putting some pics of sets you have done on here for critique? Plenty of professional tutors to give you their opinion and help. hth:hug:

Yes as a educator myself i would have to agree it is down to the educator to give you exam expectations and a basic run through of the marking criteria otherwise how would you know what to work to? I would ask your educator and if needs be contact the office and ask their advice

Thanks for the replies guys . I think popping over to the office is prob what i'll do, as I do my own nails I can show them what kind of quality they are and see if that's the kind of level they will be looking for. The assesment isn't in the same place the classes have been, I think this is why my tutor is unsure of the standard needed to pass the exam.

Also ,I hadn't thought of posting a pic on here (scary ) but I might post some pics next week as we've got to do a full set in class in under and hour and a half and I guess getting some feedback from that set would be excellent.
