Hi guys!
I am just wondering what you thought of this offer I was given today for the place I will eventually be going self employed in. (its nice to hear what everyone elses take is on this!)

I have around 30 clients already and am renting a small space in a hairdressers, where I am providing all my stock, furniture and everything else.
The location is good put not much passing trade and parking can be a pain!
So I am relying on my marketing and word of mouth mostly.

For the first month he will be taking 20% from my takings and is either going to take 30% after or a fixed rate, but he hasnt decided on the fixed rate.

I would say £100 a week would be fair? Im not sure.

Also he has a very popular hairdresser renting a chair in their for £150 na week and she works 3 days whereas ill be working 5.

But she dosnt provide furniture and also hairdressers seem to get more money for the time of their treatments!

Would be great to hear from some professionals! and anyone that can give me some good advise.

Thanks Tasha.xxx:):)

Imo, 20% to start with is good, but if it was me i would try and pin him down as to exactly when and how much he wants after the first month. If it was me i would be inclined to stay with the 20% for the first 2-3 months and build on your clientele, then i would go on a fixed rate once u have a few regulars, i think that around £100 for a full week is quite good but if youre having to provide everything, make ur own appointments and all ur own advertising costs i would maybe consider trying to get it a little bit less.

you might also want to take into consideration the amount of space you've got, and how much it's worth compared to other places offering the same, ring around and get an idea of what other people/salons are offering! also the amount it will cost you to decorate? your lucky that you already have a client base will some of these come with you?

When i moved into my new place it's about 30 minutes away from where i live so not many of my clients have followed, yet i do have some new ones that travel from miles! i'm very lucky i have 1 big room, 2 fairly average sized rooms and a kitchen with private parking, cctv, security etc and i pay very little a week!

As for the cost i would suggest ringing around and doing your homework then agree on an offer that's best for you!!

Don't forget that he, probably, provides all the consumables for her as well!

Personally I think the percentages are very good. However, I think you might be a little optimistic trying to get a fixed rent of £100 a week, but I don't know what the going rates are in your area, so it's best for you to, discretely, do your own homework on that:).

What is important is that you do decide on a fixed rent and when it starts, before you accept his offer and move in.

I am certainly going to ask him whether I can do 20% for the first 3 months just to build up my clientelle.

Maybe After 3 months he could take 30% but Im still unsure, I dont want to ripped off for just using up a space large enough to fit my own table and chairs in.

He also said that he dosent do contracts either which can be slighty worrying.

I am so excited but worried at the same time!

Not too sure about local rents in your area but I rent beauty rooms for 150pw (empty) and I charge 200 to 250pw chair rent (no products or equipment supplied) so your deal sounds very good
