I had a client of mine ring me today asking about her friend whom goes to a nail tech for a NNO, this tech informed her that her cuticles are ahhem,,very hard and she should moisturise them with baby oil, my friend was ringing to ask if this is correct, I informed her that the nail tech should be removing the cuticle off the nail plate prior to a NNO or a manicure and what she may be refering to is the eponichium, or that maybe her cuticle is overgrown and she should be using a aha cuticle cream and solar oil treatment daily, and baby oil will not penetrate the skin or nail plate as its molecules are to big to be absorbed and therefore would not help her in the slightest.

I suggested she needs to use an oil with jojoba in which is a carrier and vit e and to look in her chemist, or I could get her some solar oil which is made for this, Am I right in telling her this, I did also say I would look at her nails and then would be able to see what she means by this,,, lol :confused:

This sounds right to me. You are spot on about the jojoba and vit e. I'm not sure what solar oil contains as I don't use it but if you know it has those ingredients then you are right. Though I would agree with you seeing her before giving her further advice cuz it could be she has some pterygium (not sure I spelt that right) which is overgrowth of the eponychium onto the nail plate caused by some sort of damage to the eponychium or I believe hereditary (not sure). So you should check that out before telling her to remove any "hard skin" from her nail plate.

I hope this helped.
