Do you start in the front?

Yeah. I usually hot cross bun. Top front to perimeter. Then back.

I'd rather it looked good at the front/top where she can see it

You can either; drop a depth in the back or start in the back and develop from when you finish the last section.

The last option depends on how long it takes for you to apply the colour?

15-30 mins depending how chatty I am

I think I might try to drop a depth. See how that is next time...
