Hi there people, we are a growing salon....and have been looking at all sorts of companies to take on their skin care range - Collin, Thalgo, Dermalogica (yuk), Eve Taylor, Moor Spa, Yon-ka plus about 30 others! We really really like Thalgo, have tried contacting them a few times about booking a proper demo, but they have been rubbish at getting back to us...Is it because they only really want big spa's now like Elemis and co? Does anyone else use Thalgo in their salon? We are aware that Thalgo used to be the queen bee, but has now been superseeded by dermalogica and all that, but they still have good brand awareness, and the treatments are to die for! What do people think about Thalgo? Really would love to hear what you all think...

Hi there,

I am an independent therapist and have been using it for 3 years now and I love it although I know that some staff have left recently and they are pretty pushed (rep's covering big area's while recruiting I guess). That is still no excuse for not receiving a return call though. I have always found my 2 previous reps to be very supportive & helpful.

The treatments are very luxurious and results driven and the products are beautifully fragranced. They have also just launched an organic range.

Hope this helps!

Em x

How come you think Dermalogica is yuk hun? xxx

thanks for your replys people -

Sharkster - This is exactly why we would love to take Thalgo on. I even sent the managing director an email, to no avail. I will definately get on to them on the phone in the next few days, hopefully we will have better luck that way. Not been rushing tho, as we have so much to do to get everything ready (we are converting our 2nd floor and creating some more beauty rooms :) ). Thanks for the feedback anyway, the body wraps and stuff look so nice.

KylieB - Not a big fan of dermalogica at all - there's about 5 salons on the same road as us using them, so really don't want to follow the crowd - But also, in my eyes dermalogica is on its downward curve, it's had its day...and will soon become a retail brand. It's already being sold in boots and undermining the salons that have made it the big name that it is...I could be very wrong, but everything goes in cycles...we would like to partnership with a company who are still on the upward part of the curve if that makes any sense! Of course, you have some people who love and trust dermalogica, and we don't expect to tempt them over, but there is a large portion of people who would like some choice and maybe something a little different.

I've heard from a few people that Thalgo, sort of used to be the Dermalogica a few years ago - really big brand...and they still have that big brand feel and awareness and quality treatments, but they arnt being rammed down everyones throats like good old dermalogica! Just how we feel in our salon here anyway :)

Cheers for your feedback !
Take care x

This is why I'm not a Dermalogica fan, I just think it's market saturation. It's much nicer to offer something different and stand out!

I've sent a link to this thread to the MD of Thalgo and she'll be horrified and no doubt someone will be in tough with you. I know for a fact that she reads and replies to thousands of emails each month, so I'm sure she'll get back to you.

They're a great crowd and it's a brilliant product, so hang in there. xxx

Couldn't agree more!

Why would anyone want to be the same as everyone else. Where's the fun in that?

What would make a potential client come to see you instead of the salon down the road?

If you're using the same products as your immediate competitors it means you're usually offering the same treatments. Again, where's the fun in that?

If your prices are higher & you're using the same products, a client is going to wonder why. I should think it's harder aswell to get away with charging more.

I'm all for being different :green:

good to hear it's not just me with that opinion on derma :) ...it's so boring. And can one companies products really be much better than the others? I doubt it. It's just got a very clever marketing team, and marketing concept, with the face analysis thing.

We've been lining up Thalgo ever since I tried some of that Ocean memory cream at the trade show - that stuff is awesome!

Kim - Thanks for your help, as I said, we haven't been in a massive hurry as we have been so busy getting everything else ready, but now seems like the right time to start getting some concrete plans on who and what we are going to offer in our new space.

Blue Rose - Everything you said there hits the nail on the head ! If people like dermalogica, they probably are happy to stay at the salons that have been offering it for ages...so unless you offered it cheaper, it's unlikely you'll get much interest! Need to break the mould and offer something really exciting. I havnt looked into it much, but Karen Herzog seems to have some really nice indulgent treatments too...and eve taylor seems really good value with really nice simple effective treatments...its such a hard decision! We took on Cetuem 's skincare range a month or so ago, just to get us going (we have one beauty room already up and running downstairs) and whilst the product itself is really really good...it just doesn't have any awareness...nor much support. (It was cheap however, and the product is great...and they're local :) )

Any other suppliers out there at the moment that deserve a mention for all those people trying to nail down their perfect partner? Environ? I guess it all depends on what kind of things you want to offer, what style your salon is in and so much more! You have to believe in the product to be able to be enthusiastic about it I'm thinking. Wow, i'm just thinking out loud here.

Catch you soon everyone

I think you've just answered your own questions, lol

If you want to offer really nice, indulgent treatments then there's:
Algologie (which is what I use - some lush treatments:))
Germaine de Cappuccini
Gerards (their choccie treatment is mmmm)
Africology (saw them at Excel last year, their products smell divine but out of my price range :irked:)

In my experience, it's not so much a brand name that draws clients in. It's how we promote the treatments & what they are going to do for the client. Funnily enough, most new clients book in for waxing, back massage & manicures & pedicures. They very rarely book in for a facial or body treatment.

It's only by us as therapists talking to clients about the treatments & by offering regular monthly promotions on them that get clients booking in.

Those of you on my newsletter mailing list will be privvy to the kinds of things we do & how they are worded.

12th - 18th October is actually Chocolate Week so we will be starting to do promos on our chocolate treatments starting again next month. Always popular :green:. We offer quite a few different choccie treatments & I vary the promos each month & will continue until April. (We find we don't do many choccie treatments in the sumer months).

I have a new therapist who started 3 weeks ago & she's soo excited about doing the choccie treatments.

Nowhere else around us does choccie so for us it's a big draw :green: & gives us a good reason for people to come to us.
