I finished my Creative foundation course at xmas and since then I have mainly been working on friends and family. I am a full time mum of two v young kids so getting the time to actually work on people has been a bit tough. However I have gotten myself an interview tomorrow with a nail bar for part time work and I am absolutely brickin it  as I really dont know whether I am good enough to work in a salon yet! At the moment it is still takin me nearly 2hrs to complete a full set of l+p, gels a little bit quicker. Now the girl knows I have no salon exp so I'm hopin she will b expectin me to be a little slower than average! Anyway I was just wonderin what employers really look for when recruiting inexperienced techs? I know my enhancements aren't perfect but I have always got positive comments from the people I've worked on, so can employers see potential in a newbie?? Also, should I wear my tunic for the interview or just casual clothes? And will they expect me to have my own nails done? Sorry for rambling on but I,m just v nervous and don't want to blow it!!

Wear your clothing and not a uniform treat it like a business meeting. As for your timing I said when i was first starting out that all I am not as fast as I would like to be I progress fast

Hope that works and good luck.

Hi Emo, I agree with Leah pretty much with what to wear, if you are completing a set in 2 hrs then you are doing pretty good, I am down to about 1hr 45mins and hope to reduce that by mastering sculpting where possible. The thing is if you give fairly good results, then time won't matter too much. I am sure the salon owner will know what its like for a newbie and will make the necessary allowances, you will get up to speed in no time though, especially when you have plenty of clients.
Good luck!!

I've been doing nails for about the same time as you and I feel exactly the same about my timings. I have every confidence that I will get better and I think as long as you can show the salon owner that you have the passion and the drive to succeed there shouldn't be a problem.

Everyone has to start somewhere! Just keep practicing,

Good luck with the interview

ps wear your tunic and take all you certificates

You could also take your smock with you if you have to doo a set there you are prepaired

Thanks for all the advice, its very much appreciated! :)
