Just a question for you.

How long did it take you to decide you wanted to teach nails, and how long after that did you achieve your ambition?

Also, what made you decide that teaching nails is waht you wanted to do, rather than just carrying on with becoming a fab Nail Tech and do you think you have to have any special redeeming qualities to teach Nails?

Thanks guys

Just a question for you.
I see in your avatar you are "thinking positive". Well thats a great way to start if you are considering going down the educator route.
How long did it take you to decide you wanted to teach nails,This, for me, came and felt like a natural decision and feeling after i won nail pro of the year, i had been in the industry for 15 years at that point, and it felt right, challenging and exciting to be giving back to our nail techs of the future. and how long after that did you achieve your ambition? If you look at my cv you would see that not many years have gone by without taking a course or updating skills etc, this is important as to be an educator you do have to be at the top with not only the practical side of things but the knowledge too. If you are, then you will possibly be approached yourself by a company, but if not then do a lot of jumping up and shouting and let the world know what you can do!!!

Also, what made you decide that teaching nails is waht you wanted to do, rather than just carrying on with becoming a fab Nail Tech You can still continue to be a fab nail tech as well as an educator, thats good that you would want to continue nails also, its shows pssion for what you do. and do you think you have to have any special redeeming qualities to teach Nails? If i list the qualities of a CND education Ambassador then its a start to seeing what it takes and what is expected to come on board,

Passionate
Principled
Polished
Bold
Professional

Lastly i would just like to say that it can be the most satisfying, rewarding, fun and exciting positions in the world of nails.

Thanks guys

Good Luck

I started to teach as I took on help in my salon and molded my technicians into my image

I taught all my 'juniors' personally, years and years before I started to formally teach for CND. I wanted them doing nails my way in my salon. I learned I was good at teaching ... good at seeing where they were going wrong with technique and putting them right. Good at imparting the knowledge to them. (remember 20 odd years ago .. there wasn't the education available in the UK that there is now.)

The training I had with the first company whose products I used was really a bit of a joke to be honest. In those days we learned on the job and by the seat of our pants.

Thank you ladies :)

It's really good to get a perspective of other people who have 'been there, done that, still doing it', so to speak.

When I said 'instead of carrying on and becoming a fab Nail Tech' I didn't mean not carrying on doing other people's nails, I meant just staying a Nail Tech rather than going on to teach. Did that last sentence make sense to anyone else but me :green:

So Geeg, it's ok to teach people who you employ in your own salon? I'm assuming that they already held a cert of some sort though?

And Julia I am certainly all these things

Passionate
Principled
Polished
Bold (sometimes too much for my own good!)
Professional
:green:

So once I have completed my exciting mountainous journey of CND courses (I know you never stop learning) and gain my certificates, do I have to do a teaching course as well to enable me to educate, or is that something that I can learn along the way while I complete each course in turn?

Thanks so much for your input so far, it's really appreciated

We're talking over 20 years ago! There weren't many other options open for education.

No certs .. I trained them and if they were good I later sent them for teaching and a certificate for which they all paid me back in monthly installments which I took out of their pay check.

I'm not a trainer yet, so not even a great trainer... but here's some answers any how.

Just a question for you.

I think I realized about 1-2 years ago that I eventually want to teach and open a school. As it stands, nowhere near close yet. First need to expand the business and hire a junior. But space is limited and can't do that until we move.

Also, what made you decide that teaching nails is waht you wanted to do, rather than just carrying on with becoming a fab Nail Tech and do you think you have to have any special redeeming qualities to teach Nails?
I've been told many times over the years that when I'm explaining something or whatever, I'm very clear about it. That I have "a way". It's been suggested to me as far back as 20yrs ago that I should look at teaching. What's made me think on it now is how much of a struggle it's been for myself, to become a 'qualified' technician despite the abysmal standards and education here in Quebec. I want to change that. And it starts with teaching first. I can't change things with the government, until I have a viable option for techs in terms of better education.

Thanks guys
