I am currently training with Gel products and was wondering whether it is a good idea to train in Acrylic too. I've looked into doing an Acrylic course with Essential Nails. Has anybody trained with them? How do you rate them?

Hi Jo,

There have been loads of threads on this topic with loads of different views. If you do a search you'll get lots of info to help you make up your mind.
I passed my Essential nails l&p a few in Sept and I really enjoyed the course but some people prefer to have a classroom based training.
However, if you have Nov. Scratch or Pro nails, I'm sure the Ivan Blunt article would be proof that home learning can work if you do.

Happy hunting

In the USA we do it backwards..we learn acrylics and specialise there before we move on to fiberglass, and if you are one of my students, you get the rare opportunity to learn gel nails...the other programs in this area, don't offer anything except fiberglass (I think you call it fabric across the pond:D )

I'd say, from an educational stand point, learn absolutely every thing you can about every technique you can, then choose the ones you like best and perfect them...but never stop learning, that is the most important thing you can do, because the technology is constantly changing. ( in the 15 years I've worked, I've seen everything from chase and play to make an acrylic sculptured of course..and a little flat because we didn't know about apexes, fiberglass that used a now banned chemical in the catalyst to julienne wraps because they were thought to look more natural....:o they're being advertised in the US trade mags again..makes me feel old and really I'm not)

If it's easier for you to learn every thing about one technique, and get it perfected before moving on, then go for it, always reach for the stars, and eventually you will get there:hug:
