Hi all.
Looking at a few threads on here and you lovelies seem to know exactly what you're talking about so i was wondering if i could pick some qualified, knowledgeable brains please??

I've started working in a tanning and nail shop and the boss is giving me the chance to train with the nail techs there and pay for my qualification.
The way it's working is i'm learning/training from the fully qualified techs and when i'm good enough and had aalot of practice i will go and do a day course with NSI and get my qualification.

My query is........i don't think he's including the 'foundation' section which i think is the anatomy of the nail etc, he wants me to tell the NSI educator that i have already completed that part and also have experience doing nails already i just need qualifying (so he doesn't have to pay for the foundation too).
Is this right?? I'm not sure it is, surely i won't be fully qualified if i don't have the foundation under my belt. I want to do this but i want to do it properly.

Any advice would be awesome. Thanks!

He wont be able to do that hunny,
NSI will want to see any certificates that you have gained to show that you have done a foundation course first,
and it would have to be an accredited certificate that NSI recognise,
this is a standard requirement from all and any other reputable nail course provider, hth

Thanks hun!
That's what i thought but we have another lady there who qualified the way he wants me to. She had to lie and say she'd done it all before and the NSI educator didn't even ask!!

I know he's just trying to get quick cheap qualifications so he can make money from us working there.
I'll make sure i point it out to him.

Thanks again!

I definitely do not agree with short cutting training and suggesting you lie is dreadful. You've been given some good advice. I have to ask the question though: why do you appear to disapprove of the fact that he wants to make money out of you?

That is what employing people is all about i.e. to make money out of them in return for a fair wage. I don't approve of his suggestion but at least he is offering to pay towards your training which is a lot more than many bosses do. He is also willing for you to use his time to learn from the other technicians. So many would love to learn in a salon environment.

Maybe I've misunderstood your post but it seems he is investing in you in 2 ways. How about you offering to share some of the cost and paying for the foundation course. If you want to do nails then al least you know you've got a good education.

I'm not having a go at you, just playing devils advocate and making a suggestion for you and others that read this post.

Oh no not atall, i'm over the moon to be learning nails (loving it) and for him to be paying for it but i'm concerned that he's making short cuts where he really shouldn't be. He's so adamant to be the best in our area i can't see why he would short cut on qualifications.

Just had to make sure what was going on would make my qualification invalid or be illegal for me to work there without all the necessary training and qualifications?

Thanks for the advice
x
