training costs

Does anyone know if training costs are allowed as a business expense, ie. Are they tax deductable? If not, what happens if the training includes products which are going to be used on clients? Many thanks.x

I don't know how true this is but an accountant once told me that if you are training in something completely new that you haven't done before then this cannot be tax deductable. However, if you were already say trained in waxing and wanted to train in extreme waxing then this was tax deductable.
