Sorry for the long post but giving some background info takes up some time to explain.

I have suffered from Trichotillomania for over 25 years. I would classify it as moderate at this point and sometimes I go from mild to moderate depending on what is going on in my life. Obviously when I am under periods of stress, the hair pulling gets worse. I started going to a hairdresser about 10 years ago who owned a salon with a friend and my mother was a client. My mom talked to her about my disorder and she agreed to work with me and it was comfortable b/c I would go at the end of the day when I would be the only client in there. All was going well until a few years back when she would mention to my mom that I was pulling again and talking about my hair. I was a 33 year old woman and was annoyed that she was talking to my mother about my business b/c then I'd have to hear from my mother who has never fully understood the disorder and why I can't control myself. I know I should've talked to the hairdresser but I just stopped going to her and would do my own box dyes and cut my own hair (it is wavy so you could never tell the uneveness). It's been years and I have only found one salon and they have private rooms and work with women with different hair problems from cancer patients to women with alopecia. The problem is that it is so far for me to go. A trip to the salon lasts 5 hours between the drive to and from and the actual time there and it's hard to find that kind of time every 8 weeks for highlights and a cut. I'd like to find a salon in my area that has private rooms & would be sensitive to my condition but I just don't know where to begin. Do I just start calling every salon in the area and simply asking if they have private rooms? Are there any kind of one stop shopping websites out there that would just give me some information. I just don't know where to begin. I've Googled salons/trichotillomania, salons/private rooms and the area I live but coming up empty. I'd even love to find someone who has a mobile salon that would come to my home but can't find anything like that. Anyone work with client with Trich and how do you handle them wanting private areas to have their hair done?

I'm not a hairdresser I just happened to come on as this was posted so I hope you don't mind me commenting but have you ever considered a mobile hair dresser? It would be done in your own home so should reduce the stress of trying to find somewhere suitable!

Oh my god I'm so thick I've just reread your post and you say that at the end! Sorry!

I have done I work in a specialist salon in London.

I think it will be a case of finding someone who you feel comfortable with in your own home.

Have you tried looking on gumtree of similar places to find a mobile hairdresser? That might be worth a shot I hope you find someone xx
