Hi all, this is probably a stupid Q to ask, (so please don't shout for me asking)

I did my course for all systems last weeks (using Salon Systems) and was just wondering if I did (for instance) a set of clear gels or acrylics, after I have put the UV topcoat on and cured, could I apply a normal polish of colour (rather than using gel colour) and then another UV hi gloss topcoat (like the IBD one)? Or is this a big no-no? I'm just thinking aloud really and trying to get my head around stuff.

If this isn't the way to apply colour (which is easily changeable on client request) could someone please direct me?

Thanks again :)

I have tried this before when i was doing my gel training and found it didnt work at all.

I do find that on acrylic nails, nail polish always lasts longer anyway. It dries a lot quicker as well. Most of my clients come back after 2/3 weeks and usually its still fine. Not sure if its lasts as well on gels though.

Ahh ok thanks for that! So do I do my full set of acrylics including uv topcoat and cure and then pop on polish and topcoat?

Some people have used enamel under gel top gloss with success and some people haven't.

I think it boils down to the enamel being completely dry before using the gel top gloss on top, otherwise the enamel will slide off the nail together with the top gloss.

If you wanted to put enamel on top of the gel or L+P, then it's better if you paint it on at the end on top of a finished enhancement and seal it with a normal top coat.

Ive had (coloured) gel nails and (french) acrylics applied completely in the normal way, cured etc. And when Ive got bored of the colour Ive painted over them with nail polish and sealed it with a normal top coat and its stayed on for ages and looked great.

If you're planning on polishing the enhancement, I don't think there's a need to put uv gloss on. Seems like a waste of product to me and that stuff is expensive. With acrylic, just buff smooth and use a base and top coat and if it's gel, you can either buff smooth or buff with a 180 grit file and apply a last layer of gel. Either way is fine.

As for putting gloss over polish, as said earlier, you pretty much have to wait until the next day, which is generally not practical in a salon setting. Perhaps for yourself to protect your own color while working, maybe.

Yes.

I see no reason at all for doing that. Normal polishes last very well on gel nails. Clietns come for infills wearing the same colour that was applied during the previous treatment.
Some people apply a uv top coat over normal polish but if you do that you will have to buff the colour off instead of using a regular remover - not very practical if tje client wants to change colour, for instance.

Just a question from me: are you speaking about this system?

Regarding using top gloss over enhancement and THEN polishing - I always ask the client if she intends to keep polish on until the next appointment. If the answer is no, and she would like a natural look at some point then I use the uv gloss coat first then apply colour. This means she will have a nice glossy natural looking nail when she has removed the colour with polish remover. If the answer is yes, she intends to always wear polish then I don't apply the topcoat but put colour directly onto the buffed enhancement. After all, top gloss costs money and it would be a waste if it wasn't necessary.
