Hi everyone,

I was told when doing my spray tan training to put vasaline on the palms of my clients hands, When i have had tans before i have never had to do this and when i have put it on my clients hands they complain as they say its not a pleasent feeling, it also seems to make a much more defined line across the wrist therefore having to buff alot in that area.
Am i doing the wrong thing by not using vasaline? I put a little moisturiser on my clients palms, is this the best thing to do?
Your comments and views would be much appreciated.

Emma :)

I would just use a moisturiser cherub and then its much easier to blend in at the wrist and any other areas where tan isn't wanted.HTH

I use moisturiser. It has nothing to do with me spraying their palms, it's just that people touch themselves whilst you are spraying them! All the time they do it without thinking-lol.
I never spray right up to the wrist as it looks silly having a straight line right across there. When you tan naturally, you don't tan up to the wrist so i just pull my gun back when i do this area :)

Thankyou guys, I have only been qualfied 3 months so thankyou for your help, i didnt want to leave the palms with nothing on them just incase of any overspray so thanyou for letting me know that iam doing the right thing. x:hug:

With the right techniques there is absolutely no need to use either Vaseline or indeed a moisturiser when applying a spray tan.

Nothing wrong with getting the customer to apply a good moisturiser to the palms of hands before retiring to bed to avoid touch mark stains:hug:

Also worth mentioning to customers that it can also be prudent to get partners that they sleep with to also cream their palms :wink2:

Even with the best technique in the world, if your client starts touching themselves whilst you are spraying them (and they do!), it makes sense to just apply a bit of moisturiser on their palms :)

I don't apply moisturiser before the spray tan, but put a blob of moisturiser on the client's palms afterwards. They rub it in then I wipe off any excess with a sheet of kitchen roll, whilst explaining to the client that their palms are now tan-free and they mustn't touch themselves.

I also always do a little buffing around the wrist area (with a Fake Bake buffing mitt), which I find gives an excellent and natural-looking "finish" between the wrist and the palms. This technique takes literally seconds to carry out (alright, let's say a whole minute) but gives a great finish and adds a touch of luxury to what is otherwise a quick 10-15 minute treatment.

xx

Thankyou for your help everyone, your all very kind.

if your wary of tanning clients hands n dont wanna use vaseline why not try asking your clients to hold a tennis ball in each hand, that stops the hands getting tanned too.
:)

I never moisturise clients hands, just make sure you have them at the correct angles when spraying, (1st tan I did, on my poor bf I forgot this and gave him dodgy looking hands lol have never forgotten this again!)
I take it if you are using moisturiser it should be oil free as if the touch onther parts of their body will it not affect the tan there? (I sleep with my hands under my legs lol) xx
