Hi all
Im new to this site so please be kind, and I apologise in advance if my questions have already been answered else where...i cant find them!
I have recently secured a room at a local established holistic therapies clinic who are looking to branch into beauty side. Ive only before specialised in nails (mobile) & the manicure/pedicures go down well. However, it wasnt really enough, so after much research into what the area was missing, I bit the bullet & did a short accredited course in waxing to refresh my knowledge.
So, having now purchased all the set up, and lined up willing models (i will not offer / charge for waxing until I feel FULLY confident - im well aware an 8 hr course & 5 hours of practice isnt enough!!) i just have a couple of questions if you lovelies wouldnt mind answering:
1) I have purchased the hive 1000cc, & options honey & lavender to practice with (special offer - hope to save up enough to use pr by the time im charging!).
Do i sit the actual tub of wax in the container & then that in the machine, or do i have to empty wax from the tub into container - if so, do i melt it in microwave to do this?
2) I have read quite a few posts on here (last 49 pages worth so far) and jasmine oil is mentioned a lot. Do i need to use this as well as my pre-wax? and does it have to be jasmine or is there a substitute?
3) and finally, this is really more just wanting an opinion - I am a larger lady (size 18) I wear glasses, and im in my late 30's. I personally have never had a proffessional wax, or tan etc because i feel embarressed in front of the majority of young, very slim, very attractive beauticians i have met (i know, thats my problem, and im probably just jelous lol!). Now, I always maintain a well groomed, neat appearance, but I am natural, minimal make up etc. Will I loose, or not get, custom because people have a pre-conception of how a beautician should look? It has never been an issue with nails, but waxing is different. Im sorry if this sounds like a really silly question but it is playing on my mind!
Thankyou in advance for any help

No right minded client wouldnt come to you because ur not orange , stick thin and wear heels to work , aslong as you look clean and healthy nothing else should.matter! I would advice getting a wax treatment.done.so.you can feel what the client feels this.helps you know what speed to use etc, also I just sit.the.plastic.tub into.the metal insert container And.obviously put that into.the wax heater , however your supposed to microwave it.in the plastic.tub.slightly Aned.put.it.into the insertion.container however I only have 2 and have 4 different types of wax.so need.to be able to change them.etc and I just use hive pre wax and after wax and they work wonders for.me.

Hope this helped
P.s sorry for the spelling.and multiple random full.stops 6inch nails and.a touch screen phone do.not go well.together xx

I wouldn't do freebies. I would charge at least something, or as I'm about to do - just throw myself in at the deep end and open for business as usual from the start (if you've had recent training then the chances are you are better qualified than all the other waxers in your town!). If you're waiting to feel fully confident before you start you may be waiting a long time.

Perron Rigot, Depileve, Rica and I'm sure other brands can be bought in a tin. You remove the bucket from the heater and just drop the tin right in the top.

btw I've just got a room in a clinic too. Nice neutral setting to offer intimate male waxing from.

personally i think your over thinking things about your image so you need to stop as long as your qualified and look clean and your friendly thats all that matters. i would much rather have some one like yourself to perform treatments on me than someone who skinny and plastered in makeup lol. good luck for your training.

thankyou all for taking the time to reply! im sure your right & i am just over thinking things! i did have a wax on the course so have at least some experience of how client feels! and i think i will take the advice & open sooner, throw myself in at the deep end - because i feel quite confident in my ability anyways, and at least now i know how to melt my wax lol! might even treat myself to a new hairstyle before hand (always makes a girl feel better anyways!)
thankyou again ;)

yes just go for it you have to do it sooner or later(being a bit o hypocrit here lol) i to am renting a room from next week and am really nervous even though been mobile since june 2012 and have been doing other training and mobile since feb 2012. at the minute doubting myself and skills but when mobile just get on with it. anyway i'm sure you will be fine and if you have had previous waxing experience and you are confident then all should be ok.

In my opinion clients will return to a therapist who is good at what they do, looks professional (and I'm talking about any age or size), who also gives good customer service and great client care, so don't worry :)

just to try & get question 2 answered - do i need to apply an oil as well as my pre-wax? does it need to be jasmine or can i substitute for say grapeseed?
thanks all.
I have also just discovered my insurance covers me to do intimate waxing, although i havent been trained - so i will be booking myself on a short course asap cos at least once i get some tuition i know i wont need to pay extra for insurance! :!:

hi i have heard this a lot too about using oil but not sure if this is with intimate waxing, i was never taught to use oil for normal waxing, but have been told since that you can and also talc:confused:

I assume the pre-wax you refer to is a cleanser in which case you cleanse then oil. You can use any light massage oil (grape seed, sweet almond). You don’t need to use jasmine. I assume you are referring to Perron Rigot’s jasmine oil – this is a cheap old mineral oil that is scented (I hate this product and can’t wait to finish the bottle I have of it).

I buy oils from NEAT Wholesale - Bulk Buying, Naturally - FREE DELIVERY. At the end of February Outback Organics release their own pre-wax oil.

Your insurance will only cover you for intimate waxing if you have obtained the specific qualification so don’t try it until you have your certificate.

hi yes pre wax cleanser and then was taught to just go in with wax take off with strips and then use after wax, how much oil do you use? what if you use to much, does it give a better result? thanks

If you use too much the wax will just slide off the skin. Just wipe it off with some tissue and try again. Use the tiniest amount of oil you can - one or two drops for a whole leg maybe. You shouldn't be able to see there is oil on the skin really.

Thankyou "male waxin"g for all the info on oil - and just to confirm i would never dream of attempting intimate waxing without relevent, specific training! just amazed that obviously people can do so, if they wished to, as some insurance companies cover it under a "general" waxing qualification / certificate!!
