Oooh Im actually really excited as I have my waxing course today. Im not normally this excited about doing a course - but I am hoping that I am going to really take to waxing.

Friday was like Christmas - I ordered all my waxing stuff as it was the VAT free day at sallys and it arrived. Got the spa clean and easy roller wax starter kit, plus a normal spatula and pot heater starter kit. Maybe a bit over the top getting both......

Its a private course - just me - and I am taking my daughter as my model to wax. (its accredited by the Guild)

So far I have been doing nails - shellac and gelish - but I have been having so many problems - its been a bit of a nightmare. I will still carry on with nails, but I am hoping if I can grasp waxing ok it will make the whole thing more pleasant and do my confidence a lot of good. It will give me something else to offer.

Have lots of practice people organised. How many practice sessions did you do before you started on 'real' customers? I will only start on paying customers when I am totally confident. Even though I practiced for 5 months with nails I had to start on the public before I felt confident and I think this is one of the problems. I dont have to do this with anything else I learn and I dont care how long it takes I wont be starting on paying customers until I am ready.

Oooh best get ready to go now.....

I love waxing! You may take to it really quickly and not need loafs of practice. Good luck! x

Have fun on your course today honey.

Waxing is definately easier to pick up than some nail treatments. I think I only did a couple of waxes in each area before I started on paying clients. The only thing you may want to practice a bit more is bikini and maybe underarms as the hair growth tends to be in various directions.

Good luck with the course today. Waxing is one of my favourite treatments! I practised for about three months (all the time working on my technique) before I started on the public.

Hope you enjoyed your course. Throw yourself in at the deep end and get waxing asap. If it were me,book loads of people in and do them for free. After all, they're doing you a favour and that way they can't moan if you're not brilliant to start with.

Set a date to start charging clients……….say the New Year. Good luck, you'll love it as it's very satisfying. x

Thank you all for your kind replies. Well I am back, waxing certificate in my grubby little hands - yay!!

I think this may be my thing - the trainer thought it might be - so am really happy! I love it!! Ha no more rotten nail treatments - Im gonna wax, wax, wax!!! Not really, I am determined to get the nail bit sorted and not be tempted to say 'sorry we are full today' when people come in and ask if we have any nail appointments... how bad is that eh!!

I was taught the clean and easy roller system - but the trainer also let me try the spatula and pot method briefly so that I could see how that is applied too. I have to admit I thought the roller system best - but that may change as I get more experience - so will keep an open mind. What do you all find the best? I have read some previous postings that the roller system seems quite popular.

The trainer reckoned just to do a couple of practice sessions and then she said I would be ready for paying customers. But I am in no rush - will only start on paying customers when I am very very confident.

And if I do truely find this is my thing and I get good at it, then I would like to progress to intimate waxing too. But first things first eh......

Thanks guys for your support.

Thanks for your message Kim - think I was typing mine when you posted so didn't see it.

Yes that is a great idea. Last week I started a list of nail clients who were happy for me to wax them for free - you are right that is the best way. And who knows they may stay with me when I start charging eventually. Oh this is so exciting!!

Thank you

Definately don't ignore the pot and spatula if you intend on specialising in waxing you really must master it too.Rollers are good for large areas but not so good on the bikini and longer hair areas they can be uncomfortable and pull as you roll them on especially on mens chests and backs.

Learning pot and spatula is also going to help you a lot when you learn hot wax which you also need to do nowadays to specialise. Many salons now require hot waxers.

Thanks for your advice Gillian. Yes will definately learn the pot and spatula system too. I have a self employed therapist who only does pot and spatula so we are going to train each other in the different systems (she has never used a roller system).

Thanks everyone for all your helpful advice and support
