Hi ladies one of my beauty clients has asked me to do her wedding make up now I love doing make up and she says always admires mine that's why wants me to do it but I obviously don't have a professional make up kit... I have brushes Mac/ urban decay shadows/ Mac high lighter but I use double wear foundation which I know isn't recommended for brides as had spf in it ... What would you ladies go out and buy ? I can't afford to spend a fortune as this only wedding make up doing at the moment? X

If I was in this situation I would have to say I'd be flattered, but have to explain I'm not a professional when it comes to wedding make up. You need a pretty extensive kit as what looks good on you won't always look great on her, and that's a lot of money unfortunately !

You could always offer to give her a few lessons when it comes to doing her make up, but I would recommend giving her details to someone who does wedding make up. Do you know anyone locally, or a friend of a friend or someone you used to work with?

Xo

I could not agree more with misskittykat putting together a makeup kit can be very expensive as there are lots of products you will need and they can be expensive. I do think everyone needs to start somewhere but if you don't intend to do bridal makeup afterwards then its probably not worth it xx

If she had asked you and you are insured to do so and she understands it's not a service you'd usually provide I would personally just do it maybe ask her to buy her own foundation (you recommend one) and obviously charge a bit less, other people probably would keep it professional but it sounds as if you know the client quite well and I'm a bit if a sucker when it comes to clients. Depending how good a client she is and if she is having other stuff done with you and spending quite a bit I would personally be tempted to do the wedding makeup as a gift if she buys the stuff you need just for her- I'm not talking a full kit to suit everybody, that way you can use the right stuff, see if you think it's something you can see yourself doing then look at going professional if it works out.

I agree with the others. If you're not planning to do more wedding makeup then it'd be a complete waste of money building a kit for one client and you wouldn't really be able to charge enough to cover it!

Even if she buys her own foundation, you still need concealer, powder, face makeup, disposables (like mascara wands) and a new mascara for her. You'd need a new gel eyeliner if you use that and new lipsticks / glosses as you obviously can't use any cream products that you've put straight on your lips / eyes or dipped dirty brushes into. It would be quite a lot of outlay for one client, unless you use mostly her own makeup!

I agree too as I have been a make up artist for 15 years and it takes a lot of experience to know what suits skin tones, shaping, contouring etc and would cost you more money to buy what you need than you would earn from one job. I would explain that you are flattered but wouldn't be confident and advise her to find someone who specialises in bridal make up. Xx
