I am currently undertaking a Beauty Therapy NVQ course & wanted to know more about becoming a nail technician. I would like to learn how to do acrylic, gel nails, nail art etc. But am wondering, do i need to be a fully qualified Beauty Therapist to do these courses or can i study these alongside my other course? I am mainly wanting to specialise in nail treatments. I was under trhe belief that you had to have some kind of beauty training background, but i see on some course information that they seem to start at the very basics & work up from this. I am really confused!!! Any advice on any new nail treatments, where i can do them (i'm from West Yorkshire) & what qualifications i'll need to do the courses would be appreciated

i studied my nail services alongside my beauty which worked well. however you may have to do mani and pedi again, i had mine apl'ed as i was almost finished with beauty when i took on nail services

I am a fully qualified beauty therapist although that qualification is not needed to become a nail tech. I did my nail training with Creative last year and although I already had some nail tech knowledge, I took the Signature5 foundation course.

Not sure if there's an academy in your area but this link shows the foundation course
