hey guys
i am feeling very nevous and i dont know why!! going to have a look at a beauty room thats available to rent in a local hairdressers.
never been in this situation before as i'm a mobile nail tech and just finished level 2 beauty.
do i need to take anything? what should i be asking?
honestly my stomach is full of butterflies as we speak!!
please can someone help me!!
The room is for nails and beuaty and is £70 per week incl utilities.
thanks
emma

Take a notepad and pen and a tape measure.

Make a list of questions beforehand and include things like, who takes bookings, who is responsible for cleaning, security of room, who provides tea/coffee, advertising within salon, if they have rented to beauty before then why its vacant, etc etc

I would wear salon uniform or smart outfit, nice make up and hair to show you look professional.

Measure the room and I would draw a little diagram or where door/window etc is so you can check at home if it is sufficient for everything you need.

Hope that helps

thanks for that - would you take your cv?? i explained to her on phone i have been mobile for 18 months doing nails and tanning and only just finished nvq2 beauty. she didnt ask me to take anything but want to show how eager i am for the room.

its recently expanded so they have added a room for beauty at the back. the pictures on thier website show the room has a beauty couch and nail desk in already

i've just made my list of questions to ask. honestly i feel like a silly schoolgirl going on her first date!!! lol

thanks for advice xx

yea writing down a list of questions beforehand is a good thing, that way you wont forget. Make sure that all your equipment that you will need to use will fit within the room. Sounds like a fantastic price for a whole week. some other questions you might want to ask asre what the opening times are, I would assume you will be using all your own products? is there a minimum amount of time they want you to sign a lease agreement for?

Its a good idea to get familiar ( if you are not already ) with the area the salon is in, have a wonder around, pass regularily and see how busy it is etc. Would you be trading under your own business name or will they want you to trade under the salon name?

Are you able to decorate as you please, and if you want to retail products also. Will you be the only BT there?

You will find more ?'s popping into your head all the time so pen and paper at the ready at all times lol, its exiting and scary all at once, good luck!! xx

i think the above posters have given you lots to ask already with their fab ideas! :D i just wanted to wish you lots and lots of luck! just remember to stay calm and think about things before you sign/agree to anything! :) enjoy your viewing! x

hi guys
well it was lovely!! lockable room, all furniture there, washing machine and dryer for towels, own toilet and washroom, will be given keys to salon so can work even when salon is shut!! and they will take bookings!!
it was really nice and the lady was really helpful!!!
was really nervous but am elated now!!!
so thanks for all your advice!!
xx

great news, good luck with your new venture!! x

This is a great opportunity I have been renting a room in a hairdressers for a year and you will get a constant flow of new people, I also note that the price is really cheap. Take certificates product information that your looking at and be confident you are your own boss, act like it! One thing I found was that they gave me a price for the room but then realised they would have to pay tax for renting it out so increased the rent, it was only 12 pound more but check that they are not going to suddenly change the goal posts on you and that the price will stay the same for a set period and also agree that you are both required to give a months notice if you want to leave or they want the room back that way no one will be stuffed especially you
