I've just relocated and am going to view a room in a hair salon. The owner has said there is no set rent for the 'first few months' just a % of earnings.
In my previous place I had a set amount of rent to pay per day I worked. (which interestingly worked out to roughly 20% of my earnings).
I would be supplying all my own products and couch/trolleys etc, booking own appointments and taking payments etc. I don' t know yet what advertising they do but they are up the stairs in the first floor so no window to advertise in.

I want to go with an idea in my head, I'm thinking 20-25% but does this sound too low?

Who else pays a %? I wouldnt want to do this forever, obviously the harder you work the more the owner benefits!

The industry standard is 60/40 split. 60% to the person who supplies the products etc so in this case that would be you. However if you can giveaway less than go for it.

Mine will be 60/40 to me, I will supply my own stock but they will do my promoting x

This has been bugging me to, I have staff at 50/50 split I provide everything bar their own stock for use on clients.

I provide towels, laundry, computer booking, card machine, advertising, price lists, appointment cards, music licenses, heat light water etc etc. it costs me a hell of a lot each week she just has to provide her colours, peroxide and foils. So would a 60/40 split in her favour be viable as that is what she has just asked for and I can't see it covering costs?

Any advice?

Most salons ive spoken to are 60/40 to whoever provides the products. Have you discussed what your rent will be once you've settled in?

If you already have a good client base may work in your favour to go straight to the weekly rent :)

I'm on 50/50 and they provide everything! :)

Depends on the type if place and location. If your doing your own payments, bookings, promo etc I would say between 15-25%. The standard rate for rooms near me is £25-£40. Obviously it depends on rural or city location as well :)

I've recently relocated to a new place so am having to start over with no client base.
I've been to view the room, its a good size. Rental is 40% to begin with for the first '4-6 months' and then £80/90 per week.

The % would suit me to begin with as I'll be building a client base again. The weekly rent is good too if I wanted to do 5/6 days a weeks.

I'm just contemplating how long it will take me to build up clients again. Before I was doing 1/2 days a week and it took me 10 months to be full just for them days (excluding the xmas week)

I'm also worried I don't have an awful lot to offer as I do:
OPI Mani & Pedi,
OPI GelColour
Tinting
Lash Lift
Christian Brows
Callus Peel
Eve Taylor Facials
Non-surgical Facelift

Once I get going again I will train in Waxing, Spray Tanning (spring time) & Microdermabrasion and maybe Faith Lift.

I wanted to specialise in Skin care and Facials but I don't think that would fit in with the Salon and plus I'm quite new to Facials.

The room sink also has a draining board attached - for some reason it's bothering me!! Am I being stupid?!

Should I bite the bullet and specialise in Skin Care and do something different to other beauty salons on the high street? (still offering the regular treatments I do too)

Thanks for reading, and any thoughts would be appreciated! x x

I didnt know that its normally 60-40, i think thats a lot if u provide everything! (Or is it just me) lol . Lucia x
