I know that newly taken medication can cause onycholosis, but can it also cause nails to become thin and easy to crack?

My mother's nails have started separating from her nail bed and they have become very thin and easy to break since she started taking new medication. What should I do to help them reattach to her nail bed again?

I remember when I was in school, my instructor told me that dripping 2% chlorophyll onto the hyponychium every night and wearing gloves would cure it, but she was also a kook so I'm having trouble taking her advise...

I trust you geeks waaay more. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Well I hope you can trust my advice and I can assure you this helps enormously.

SOLAR OIL - MORNING AND NIGHT including the hyponychium area. Doing this will help to keep the skin soft and supple beneath the nail plate so that the epidermis beneath the nail can more easily reattach to the dermis layer.

Nothing works over night in a case like this. It may take several weeks or months depending on the severity of the lift and how far it has traveled along the nail bed. The best 'cure' is time and natural nail growth .. a good diet etc. Ill health always affects nails in some way and I'm sure the change in the condition of her nails is due to a health issue as well as the medication for it.

I hope her nails improve soon. x

One of my clients had Onycholysis and I advised her to apply solar oil twice a day, but also told her to massage it in well and to do this for a minute on each nail.

I was very surprised how quickly it actually worked.

She came back four weeks later and most of it had re attached. I was just so gutted that I didn't take before and after pics.

After another three months or so, I noticed it coming back again and she admitted she had stopped rubbing in her oil, so she started again and her nails are perfect now.

I would use the solar oil to nourish the nails.

I would also recommend using original formula Listerine (the yellow yucky tasting one), as it will also sanitise and treat this condition, it contains alcohol and Thymol, which is anti-bacterial, it's a very cheap solution and I swear by it.
Also, the use of a brush to gently scrub out dead skin cells from under the nail.
