hey guys, im wondering what make of skincare for salon use you have tried and tested and would recommend.. in my town there are too many salons using dermalogica and would like some ideas, and could you also give the name of the distributor.. thanks in advance!

We use Environ. It has progressive amounts of vitamin A plus follow up salon treatment with their machine. We have SO many recommendations through clients using this brand.

Hi Christine - good question! I've felt the same, having been around for a long time and trying everything. I think that sometimes salon/spa owners get some of the "oldies but goodies", just because the name brand is recognized and they know a lot of ladies already use it - sort of a "safe" decision when opening up your own business. Just my two cents.

I've found that going to trade shows for our line of work has been the best way for me to get some samples and talk to the actual developers of the products. When you connect with their passion and they tell you how they worked with their chemist, etc., they practically give the stuff away to you to get your to love their products as much as they love their product! I'm excited about going to the ISPA Conference coming up here in Long Beach, CA because I see that they're going to have a lot of vendors I've never heard of, organic products, workshops and lessons, and of course, a ton of freebies! I love free, don't you?

Okay, off my box for now. I'm sure you'll hear a lot of great feedback from the great crowd here. love, kelly

PS I don't know anything about Environ and my thoughts are not targeted to that product but I just have to say this: Be careful about manufacturers that tout Vitamin A in their product. Once the A touches the surface of the delivery system, it dies. So, a manufacturer can say that there is Vitamin A in a product all they want, they just don't have to say that it's not an active ingredient.

I know of only one manufacturer that has figured out how to keep the Vitamin A alive and it's a private label here in America. It's patented and FDA-approved (which says a lot since our Cosmetic and Toilet Industry Association doesn't really have too many high standards in my opinion - it's like Herbs; you could put doodoo in a capsule and say it does "this or that", but since there's no real controls on it, it sells). I know a cosmetic chemist very well and we've discussed this many times along with some other "insider" info on cosmetic and skin care product claims - makes you realize how overpriced some of the major and well-known brands really are when you find out what's in them. That's why I like simple things like making my own brush cleaner - I know exactly what's in it, it's fresh and costs me a lot less. Okay, off my box (for now!). ox kelly

I use Decleor, which is well-known & trusted, and it's longevity comes from the fact that the products work & that their researchers keep the products at the cutting-edge of phytotherapy in skincare. I've use lots of other ranges including Dermalogica, Sothys, Elemis & Aromatherapy Associates, but Decleor is by far the best I have ever worked with.
