Hi all,
I've been working in the tech industry for several years and while I enjoy it I ultimately would like to switch to beauty. I'm based in Dublin so the laws etc here might be a bit different to the UK.
I love hair extensions and all things nails and was thinking of doing a CND, Asu or Young Nails course in Manicure/Pedicure, see if I like it at least, then Shellac/gel polish and then work from there.
However- I'm also really into eyelash extensions and hair extensions. No interest in makeup, skincare or tanning.
How do I decide which to go for? Should I just start with one course, practise till good and then add more courses as I go? Is it better to offer lots of services across nails/lashes/hair or to specialise in one of them?
Also, I live in a rented flat. Do I need to own my own home to work from home? I'm not mad about the idea of being mobile.
One more thing- is there a specific personality type that makes a good beauty professional? I'm quite introverted and not great at making friends or making small talk.

Thanks!

Unfortunately you will have to make small talk. I think clients expect a level of chat rather than it being silent and awkward. I know a couple of my clients have mentioned how they've been to places where the therapist hardly spoke so they didn't return. Although you wouldn't have to chat during a massage ;) Maybe it will help you be less introverted?
I started learning one thing then built it up. I think it depends on how much time and money you have available. I do think a manicure/pedicure and gel polish is a good starting block to gain confidence and clients.

I did a nail technology and enhancement course to begin with which had mani, pedi, acrylic and gels with lashes, tanning and basic make up to begin with then decided I loved the beauty side and not nails as I originally thought, so I'd maybe recommend starting with a mani pedi course to see if you like the nail side. I was also very introverted but have gained so much confidence since I began beauty. I could talk anyone into a coma now lol
