Hi all!

I am just finishing my level 2 nail technology course but feel I have too many unanswered questions!
We were trained how to do gel and acrylic smile lines but the teacher said to use white tips as these make life so much easier.
I spend alot of time on salon geek reading all the forums and have noticed there is alot of convesations suggesting not to use white tips as they do not cure properly with gel.

Im really really confused about what to do? Can anyone help me and give me some of your fab advice!

Many Thanks

A soon to be 'proper' technician!! xx:hug:

First of all the teacher gave you silly advice. White tips although they may be easier in the short term, do not help you in the long term to maintain the Forever French look. If you are going to learn a skill then learn it and don't take short cuts.

Secondly, gel cures perfectly well when using white tips as long as you use a clear gel that the UV can penetrate over the white tip. It is ONLY opaque and coloured gels that do not cure well when using white tips. Hope this clears up your confusion.

I'm just finishin my Level 2 Nail Tech an we didn't do Gel :( All we doin/did is manicure, pedicure, acrylics (only natural tip) and nail art, an the nail art wasn't that good cos our tutor isn't very good at it and she doesn't particularly like it lol. What did u do on urs? xxx

Hi, Was your couse a VTCT registered one? Mine was.
To be honest the tutor was lovely but was from the hairdressing dept and taught us by reading out of the guide books that come with the products!

On our course we did manicure and pedicure silk wraps, acrylic and gel extensions (both french) and sculptured nails.

I am going to do a nail art course in september.

Its bad that we bot feel the same about these courses! I have learnt more from reading info on here!!

if you read the front of your vtct log book it will state that the level 2 certificate is merely an access course to NVQ level 3 nails where you learn everything..maybe the college wrongly sold it to you.. however it would grant you access to most manufacturers conversions.. but yeah..its basically manicure, pedicure and a nail tech unit in one system...

We're doing all the others in the Level 3, i'm doing Level 2 NVQ so i get a diploma in nails an im hopin to do level 3 next year were we are doing silk wraps, fibreglass, gel, coloured acylics an gels, 3-d nail art an sculpterd, im very happy with my tutor as she is a trained nail technician as well as a beauty therapist :D, That sounds wrong to me that the person couldn't even teach it an didn't have a clue! Did u go to a college to learn this?

Hun, the level 2 is NOTan NVQ with VTCT its merely a diploma.. i am a fully qualified beauty therapist too and im trained in all the above..what have her demos been like?
