Who do I need to register with?

Hi all, :green:

Like many of you other geeks I've recently qualified (in nails!) and am starting a business from home (already self employed so am already paying nat ins etc) But my mother in law used to be a hairdresser and keeps telling me I have to register with my local council, does anyone one know it this is true? - from what I've read (mostly on here) I didn't think nail tech's came under same rules etc as hairdressers (no idea why though lol) have tried ringing the council but can never get through! :grr:

You need to call your local council, tell them your intentions and ask if you're allowed to run a business from your home. All councils are different and will have different rules regarding things like business rates and health and safety etc.

You also need to inform your mortgage provider and house insurance.
