Hi Geeks

I have just done a set of french gel overlays using calgel and they were awfull. All my regular my regular gel clients that i have the coloured gel so not done many french overlays. Got a new client that i went to this morning and she wanted french overlays the white smile line was awful and the more i messed with it the worse it looked.

Can any of you give me any tips on hows you do your smile lines and get them neat and also what kind of brushes do you use, i use the calgel ones at the minute but don't seem to get on with them at all.

any advice would be welcome

I'm no experienced expert or anything but this is what i do with my gel french.

I apply the pink, then using my brush i remove the gel form the tip area in 1 smooth smile sweep IYKWM, so there is a slight dip where you'll apply the white. Cure under the lamp.

Wipe enhancement, buf the tip slightly then apply the white gel to the area you remved (doesn't need to be neat), wipe your brush, then perfect your smile line with 1 consistent sweeping motion. making sure you cap the gel.

Then cure, perfect any shape problems, and apply cear gel to finish. Works for me.

I use a nylon number 5 'edge' brush.

I do a clear layer cure 30 sec, wipe, then s go over lightly with a white block to get rid of the shine, then pop the white on 2 nails, clean brush, swipe the smile into shape pop into the lamp then get on with another 2 nails and so on until they are all done, if you need a second coat its usually just a quick lick with the white gel and you can do all 5 on one hand then all 5 on the other, then carry on as usual with clear.

I find if I try and put the white straignt onto the cured clear with out wiping and buffing the white smudges and bleeds hth x

Hi,

Im having the same problem, no matter how steady I am and how long I take my smile line looks great when doing a french gel overlay in calgel but on closer inspection after curing my white seems to bleed. I have seen other calgel french overlays which looks imaculate. The line is very sharp, I just cant seem to get the same effect.

I do 1 clear layer - cure, 2 white layers - cure and repeate and then a clear final layer.

Any ideas?

thanks

dip the brush in calguard and swipe out the smile :) I used to pour a little in into the cap dip the brush in and wipe excess off, make sure u use the flat brush for this. I have switched to shellac now and its so much easier to use than calgel and looks better have a wee look in my pics the difference is very apparent, there are many gel polishes out there too hth xx

hi Do you use a number 5 Edge nylon brush for everything doing French nails or only for the white tips and smile please.

I use the same gel brush for all my gels. I apply, tip blend, base layer gel cure and wipe. Pow gel to tips to all five nails, go back and swipe in smile line with cleaned brush and cure. Apply builder cure, buff to smooth then top gloss.
