I'd love to hear the story behind your business and why you chose to do what you do and go it alone.
Whether its beauty or something else.
I'm interested in becoming an entrepreneur and would love to hear some advice or just hear about what you love :) xo

Following with interest!
Xx

Look at the thread Do you run another business/s other than hair and beauty?

I can't attach the link at the moment but if you copy and paste in the search box it will come up.

Thanks, but I'm interested in why people set up their business in whatever it is they do rather than what they do :)

Ah Ha ha OK .. To make lots of money is my reason.

I've been in and out of so many jobs then I found a job I love-but now the hours are part time or less. I decided I need to rely on myself now so as jobs you like are so hard to get, I booked myself on an eyelash course and sorted out everything I need and am now getting clients and word is getting round about what I do.
I really hope I can make this happen, I want to move out of home but have never had enough money/stable job to get enough money.😕 x

Hi. It was so frustrating for me to never realise what I wanted to do. Life was showing me that all the time but I couldn't see it. I always admired young people for just knowing. Things happen for a reason and when my son was born the penny dropped. I'm going turn 40 years old this year and I hope it is not too late for me. I started doing nails last October, oh I just love it!

I've always been in beauty and always had the view to be my own boss.
Once we decided we wanted a family and funds allowed I left my work as a highly paid salon manager and started mobile beauty and alongside my home salon.
I contacted a previous employer to see if I can freelance 1-2 days per week.
I've been a salon manager for over 12 years.
My situation is this and why I wanted to be my own boss.
I work around my little one, mainly evenings and a few daytime appointments, my little one is either with my mum , other half or asleep so I get to be a full time mum and not miss anything with him.
I freelance on a Saturday and Sunday at a salon and work on a 50/50 split of everything I bring in.
I have access to treatments at the salon that I couldn't perform mobile such as laser and ipl.
I encourage My mobile/home salon clients to the salon for these treatments with me, and they stay with me for all the other treatments where I keep all the profits. My clients stay with me for there other treatments such as massage nails and waxing as I am more flexible with appointment times then a salon plus they feel that I am not rushing them out for the next client.
I have had to close my books so to speak as I cannot take on more work and always have a cancellation list going.
I make 4x what I was earning previously whilst working a maximum if 20hrs per week so it's a win win for me.
I am priced at the top end of the market an manage my time well.
I have no desire to take on a salon or staff as my profits would go down as my expenses would go up plus I would need to put in way more hours.
I've been working like this for coming up to 3 years and can't believe I didn't do this earlier!

I couldn't afford to work for someone else, childcare expenses etc. I couldn't afford not to work for the sake of my mental health (living off benefits is depressing) so I felt I had no choice but to work for myself. I did 3 years p/t training to become a fully qualified nail tech, got to spend time with my son who is now 3, and in Oct 13 I opened my little nail bar, above local hairdresser in rural village. I open 3 days a week, working on filling those days before I even consider opening any more and it's the best thing I've ever done. It's challenging, theres always more to do and I find its bringing me out of my protective shell, I'm socialising more eg taking fitness classes, making time for date night etc. Owning my own business is changing my life for the better and is so rewarding :)

That sounds brilliant and very inspiring! I know how hard it can be being out of a job and then training to be in something you love. I'm thinking that once I've received my certificates I'm going to just take the plunge and go for it as I have no reason not to besides money.
I wish you the best of luck xx
