i was thinking tonight after seeing a few sorry states (nail wise) come into salon today - and thought there should be commandments for nail techs.
so i thought the 1st one should be

FIRST - DO NO HARM to the natural nail and cause unessessary pain (having nail enhancements should be a PLEASURE NOT A PAIN...

so can you other geeks add to this, and maybe we could make it sticky thread

1 - Thou shalt not cause damage to the nail plate, or any other part of the client
2- Thou shalt not cause discomfort to the client
3- Thou shalt endeavour to educate the client about enhancements and natural nail health
4- Thou shall be able to communicate well with thy client, else thy shouldn't be working with the public
5- Thou shall practice good personal hygiene
6- Thou shall practice in a sanitary fashion, disinfecting the implements and sanitizing as appropriate
7 - Thou shall endeavour to maintain and keep up to date thy knowledge with continued education with regards to your career.
8 - Thou shall...........

ummm I ran out of steam LOL
Let me think which are most important lol

i soo agree with that one...been to salons before and had file burn..more times than i have fingers.

maybe one could be as follows:
smile and nod politly when a client comes back the next day with nails missin and tells you "they just fell off "as we know the client is always right.as long as there happy they will be back.

Thou shalt have thy own nails perfect displaying your talent :)

I suffer from "brain on fast forward disease" and my fingers have a hard time keeping up (despite the 80-90wpm typing speed) and sometimes when my fingers catch up, the brain has moved on and I forget what it was I was thinking
:lol::lol::lol:
No, I'm not kidding.
Hence why some of my posts are so long: the brain just goes and goes and goes, and I type very fast then get to the end and look back and go "whoa! did I write all that"?

But I'm still dopey and having a brain fart, I'm sure I can come up with more tomorrow lol

I came up with 10 commandments for clients for aftercare advice when I was going to call myself Angelic Nails.

The 10 commandments of enhancement aftercare:

  • Thou shalt not use enhancements as tools Undue pressure on the enhancement may cause them to weaken or break, try to remember “jewels not tools”
  • Thou shalt not pick, clip or bite enhancements Picking, clipping or biting the enhancements will weaken them and substantially reduce the life of the enhancement as well as cause damage to the natural nails .If lifting occurs please contact myself to arrange a repair.
  • Thou shall remember to wear gloves when using detergents and harsh chemicals or gardening Exposing the enhancements to detergents and harsh chemicals without rubber gloves can cause them to become dry and brittle and more prone to breakage.
  • Thou shalt not remove enhancements Enhancements should be removed safely followed by a manicure to restore flexibility to the natural nails. This should be done by a professional and never carried out by the client.
  • Thou shall attend regular maintenance appointments Dependent on lifestyle nail enhancements may need fortnightly or three weekly appointments. If the enhancement is lifting or damaged and this is ignored it could lead to a bacterial infection.
  • Thou shall use non-acetone varnish remover Acetone will break down the product and reduce the life of the enhancement.
  • Thou shall use basecoat under varnish Using basecoat under varnish will prevent staining of the enhancement.
  • Thou shall use the recommended oil twice daily on enhancements The regular use of oil will help to maintain the flexibility of the enhancements and prolong their life and reduce breakages.
  • Thou shalt not leave nails in water for long periods of time Water can lead to dehydration of the enhancement, causing them to become brittle and prone to breakages.
  • Thou shall contact Angelic Nails if in any doubt Please feel free to contact me if you are unsure
