Hello to everyone x

I've just moved up to the Highlands in Scotland. Not working, and as I've always wanted to learn how to carry out manicures/pedicures, I really want to start learning.

The problem I'm finding is that in Scotland, I just cant find a course which concentrates on nails? It seems that every way I keep trying to get help/information/advice, doors keep shutting :irked:

I want to be able to be mobile and work for myself. Not only will nails be something I will enjoy doing, but it will also get me meeting people which I love. As I also make my own jewellery, I thought that I would incorporate bits and pieces if I'm able to do nails for weddings etc, etc.

I have seen a distance learning course by Stonebridge College. I've spoken to a friend in Lancashire who owns her own salon, and she's advised me to make some more enquiries before taking anything on training wise.

I really hope someone will reply and offer help  I'm not wanting to tread on anyone's toes up here in Scotland, I just hope if anyone is reading this from the Highlands they would be able to give me some encouragement

Many thanks

Aren't you in luck !!! We can't all have the best training in the world on our doorstep, but you can contact The Fingertips Nail Academy and speak to one of the wonderful nail artists there who teach and concentrate on nails.
Call Monday on 0131 333 3180 and speak to Fiona or Heather or email to [email protected]
They represent CND in Scotland and are superb teachers!

Thanks for the info. Will get in touch

Thanks Fiona, I've sent an email. If I couldnt manage travelling to Glasgow, could anyone suggest how I'd get practical experience?

I know these probably seem daft questions, but I really do want to get this right! Also a point my partner made, would I need a 'licence' to practice?

Thanks again
xx

I can't help with the training locations, but just to let you know that no, you don't need a licence to practice (unfortunately)

Thanks Karen. When reading around, you dont seem to need anything to do nails!! Cant understand how anyone would have the nerve to deal with members of the public without proper training and experience! Thats why I've contacted this forum, to hopefully get some useful advice and guidance.

Fair play to you for having the savvy to check things out first.... I really wish this site had been around when I started out.... could have saved myself a nice
few thousand quid!!

where abouts in the highlands are you?

hi, its only from being on this forum that i actually seen that there were college courses specific to nails! ive never seen any SVQ or VTCT courses listed in scottish colleges before apart from leisure/evening/short courses! you could check with the UHI (university of highlands and islands) Welcome to UHI :: UHI and see if they do any wee courses like that? or look into the courses with NSI in Hillington The Scottish Beauty School - and can check if your eligible for £200 funding from ILA which you can use with NSI ILA Scotland
