Im goin to pay my local Sallys Beauty a visit this week and stock up for my training, I am doing a at home course at it suits my needs.

I want to concentrate on Acrylics to begin with, can you recommend any particual brands which you enjoy working with.

Hi

I just had a quick peek at your profile. Doesnt your training provider give you any materials, or at least recommend a brand and tell you where to purchase it? If not, you might want to consider getting out while you can and finding other training, because a big part of your training is knowing your product. Different products work on different mix ratio's and with different application techniques, and if they are giving you generic training, it may not be compatible with the brand you select, and you would have no guidance as to whether the brand you select is any good, or even if it's safe to use! (do a search on here about products containing MMA).

Personally I wouldnt buy any professional products from Sallys. As far as I can recall they sell Star Nails, which isnt a particularly good brand. If you do continue your training with this educator, you might be as well ringing them and asking for details of what brand to use and where to get it.

good luck and I hope you enjoy your training.

well I am compltely new to this, I have always had my nails done and been interested inthem but hitting 30 last year made me want to change my life so am about to pass my driving test and am doing this nail course, the products they sent me were 'The Edge' what do you think of this product?

I only chose sallys as I dont have a card to buy online and that is the only place we have near me........just any advice really.

I would not recommend any brand you can buy off the shelf for professional use. Once you have finished your course I would seriously do conversion training with a reputable company, or even a college NVQ course to underpin your training to a professional level.

I did NVQ followed by CND conversion, both excellent training and excellent support afterwards.

I am soooo confused, I knew becoming a nail techncian would be a lot of hard work and dedication on my part but there seems so much more to learn than the initial course I signed up for.
I am doing a course with uk open learning which will lead to an ASET qualification and I am also paying to spend some time with my nail technician who has been established for 10 yrs, will this not be enough for me to become mobile?

does the course tell you if you will be able to get insurance once you have passed hun?...

I havent read anywhere but surely it will wont it????

I chose a home learning because it was the only option for my circumstances, UK open learning was recommended by learn-direct this is why I chose them and I thought ASET was a recognised qualification, do u think I will struggle to get public liability?

I dont know hun tbh I havent heard of it before, but that doesnt mean much lol..I would ask tho to be sure if you can get insurance with the certificate..or even ring a couple of insurance company's and ask..xx
Someone on here may know anyway hun..x

I know what you mean, I decided to change my life too a couple of years back and it was the best thing I ever did. Regarding the online purchase problem, you could buy one of those pay as you go credit cards, I have a virgin one and I just top it up at any shop with a "pay point" then use it like a normal credit card. hth x
