Hi I'm just starting training to be a nail technician and would like some advice on what to charge for a full set of acrylic nails as a trainee as I have to practice on people and they keep asking what are you charging as they insist on a price and not just for free cos I'm training.:confused::?:

Any advice would be readily accepted and taken on board.

While I was training I charged £15, but did make it clear these are model rates only, you may find once your trained and feel more confident to up your prices some people fall by the wayside. So be prepared hun...x

Hi
I charged between £10-£15 when I was training, although I did quite a few sets for free to gain confidence, I agree with Suzie49 to make it clear that its training prices only.

I'm currently charging £10 per set and have stated on my price list that prices are likely to increase in afew months time

Hi Definitely make sure you charge and explain once passed you will be charging higher, because everyone will think mate rate I get that all the time even with family they think I should do them for free but they don't realise how much everything cost, I don't charge my mum or sister and I have one friend who is disabled so I do hers for free but because she is a really good friend, else you will find it hard to charge later think about how much you have spent training how much all your materials equipment ect ect.
Good Luck with what you decide.:)

i think it also depends on geography..............but saying that - the norm does seem to be £10 - £15 while in trianing.

up here where i am, alot of trainees charge £5 - but like i said its geography.

while i trained i didnt charge as the only person i used as a guinnee pig was my mum - bless her she got sick to death of me lol

Hi I think we most of use our mums lol my mum came wherever and whenever I needed her she was that well known at the salon they asked her to help with the hair trainee's as well she was happy free haircut lol :)

bless her - mums are brill aint they - my mum endured torture while i trained at college, but she happy now - she tortures ME - her nails have to be right all the time now - needless to say - im happy to oblige

my best friend charges 18 pounds for a full set of sculpted. she shes getting good now so shes going to bump it up more.
i get mine done sree though bonus :) mine are just realy short pink acrylic though

Thanks for all your help. I was thinking in the range of £10-£15 but wasn't sure i that was too high. I guess not :). Go with my instincts. Not very good at the moment so it'll probably minimal to start. Thanks for all the helpful advice.

If I were you I would charge £15 for a full set and as the others stated ensure they know that it is a model rate.
Also, start to plan how you will increase your prices and how you will inform your clients as I find it's better if they have been pre-advised with a notice period or something similar.

I always did my Mums nails free too and she loved it (even the pants ones) haha
