Hi Guys

I'm new here but have expressed an interest in becoming involved with nails....I did think about the home learning idea but not many really give me the right qualification, plus I'd prefer to study in a class where I can see what I'm doing wrong etc....Plus I've read posts on here and see what you all think!! lol

Anyway I've seen a part time course for a nail technician at my local college: please see link:
Nail Technician (Tuesday Evening)

What do you think of this? good starting ground?

It doesn't say what qualification you get at the end of it, so that's worth finding out. A lot of courses do depend on the tutor, so hopefully she/he's a good one....that's part of the problem when taking a specialised course like this. Having said that I started out with a 20 week VTCT course at my local tech and was lucky enough to have a great tutor.

I think it will give you a good foundation that you can build on with product led courses after you qualify.

Good luck.

I trained at my local college and its nice to be able to go back every week with any problems. That said, many of the product based training with companies is split over a few weeks and therfore still gives you the chance to go back with problems and from what i have read on here support from some is fantastic in between the training days and beyond. Class size is another thing, i was lucky and had a small group, if there are 20 of you and one tutor, its going to be really hard for them to help each individual, i'm a teacher (not of beauty, but in school) and know how hard it is to help everyone all the time, its simply not possible!

I definatley agree that college courses can be a good foundation. I want to do some more training soon and know that i need it to be honest! I loved my evening classes though and it was a lot of fun, and i was sad when it was over!
good luck with it anyway hun! xx

Thanks!
I contacted the college and they say it is college certified and will be recognised by employers and will also help me to obtain practitioners insurance!

I hope I get in, waiting to hear from them about when I should hear back etc, but it's rather exciting now. I have always wanted to do something a bit more creative as in my work in a University it's pretty mundane and we have to stick with same old same old due to corporate imaging etc. So I'm really excited to be able to use some creativity and imagination!!

I did think about home learning courses but I was online chatting to an adviser in ics learn and they were saying that the nail tech diploma that they do isn't really recognised by employers at all and it's only foundation but wouldn't really help me etc. Thank goodness I didn't spend the money on them!!!
