Hi geeks,

I have myself in a little bit of a dilema, i done my training with NSI but have yet to go back for my final exam (26th Nov).

A local sunbed shop has space for a nail tech and as i know the manager she said i can have the table (self-employed, rent-£50 pw) if i want it but as i am not yet qualified and still not using a drill im unsure. My nails are not perfect but i think the more practice the better they will get, my timing is about 1hr 30mins-2hrs depending on the amount of prep, which i also think will reduce given the practice.

Would or have any of you taken a job while not yet qualified? And Would you be confident in getting clients that are willing to have there nails done by a 'trainee'?

Me and my friend are also going to be mobile tanning which i can fit in around my hours of work, i think it could work out well.

Please please help and give me some advice.....

Thankyou x

I forgot to add that im a qualified beauty therapist therfore would be offering manicure and pedicures along with Arcylics...

Andreena, as you are a qualified beauty therapist as well IMO I would go for it. Experience is valuable, and with nails the best way to get experience and to become better is to get people in front of you and do their nails (along with continued education of course).

You can offer many nail services, mani, pedi, nail tidy and enamel, enhancements (you do not have to use a drill to perform a pink and white enhancements, if you are not comfortable with pink and whites then offer blush/natural, get some further training and then add to your service menu)

Hi,

I would strongly recommend you only perform the treatments you are fully qualified in.
That way, you are covered by your insurance - which you must have, if you are looking at offering services to the paying public:hug:.

You could offer 'trainee prices' for your acrylics, but you must make your clients aware you are not yet qualified, and therefore, are only charging a minimal amount to cover products etc. That way they will be fully aware of the situation.
You must be sure you do a full consultation on all your clients & get them to fill in a form - search on here for more info regarding these forms.

As for using a drill - unless you have undertaken the correct training to use this, I would not go anywhere near one! NSI do, however, offer training for these, which I'm sure you must be aware & probably taking their course.

Thanks for your oppinions guys, really appreciate.

Just to clear up though, i didnt have any intention on using a drill until i do drill class but i cant do drill class until i have passed my exam which is 26th Nov, i would only be charging trainee prices and will make sure all my clients are aware that i am still training....thats why i was woundering if it was a good idea to do it or not.

Thanks

Hiya, i am a fully qualified nail tech but am still training with Bio Sculpture, got my exam end of Nov.
I am working in a salon offering everything. Everyone that comes in for nail enhancements understands that i am still in training and thats why its so cheap (models prices).
If was to be doing this at home i wouldnt have had half the clients i have had, most are more than happy and are rebooking. Some still expect perfect nails for next to nothing even from a trainee.
The practice i have done has boosted my confidence loads and am so glad i did it. Still struggling with my extensions though so not looking forward to my exam, still its a while off yet.
Good luck with it all
