Hi

I qualify this year and have a small baby to work around, so im thinking of going mobile or possibly buying a summer house and doing out tastfully if possible:rolleyes:

Any advice on the best route for my situation, if mobile i can work the hours i can with my little boy, find my client group, just wondering the pit falls to look out for and how difficult it would be? I want to offer spray tan, waxing, eyelash treatments, and nails

cheers

Hi hun, Seems a little hard i think perhaps could a family member or friend look after little one when you have bookings? As most people book a few days in advanced. And when they do book you could possibly keep your little one occupied with toys or something, most of the treatments you offer are pretty quick anyway i think it would work out okay.

Do you have certain times when your son sleeps? x

I think it would be better to have set days when you want to work....say Mon, Wed and Fri. Then have little one booked in on those days with a nursery or child minder.

To book clients in here and there and then try to juggle childcare is going to be hard work and you will be all over the place.

Hi There:)

Just take it nice and easy to start with as you have alot to deal with right now!
When you are ready put a card up in a few local shop windows advertising your services. Also tell your family/friends to spead the word about your new business.
Take on a couple of clients and see how you get on, If you find that this is enough for now then fine. You can always expand at a later date when you have more spare time.
Fit in your clients around your responsibilities, maybe set a day and an evening a week free where you can book the clients in.
Whatever you do dont overload yourself straight away. Remember that there will be plenty of time later on to take on a larger clientel.
Good luck with everything:hug:

I am in the same boat as you, but I have 3 little ones. I targeted the areas that I wanted to service (being not far away) and advertised that I specialise in evening and weekend appointments. This suited my situation well as I went out to do nails when my husband could mind the kids plus the clients that I service work during the day so evening apts worked really well. I only do this part time till all the kids are at school but my evenings are booked for the next two weeks to date which will continue due to infill servicing etc....

Thanks everyone

I agree offer the evenings and maybe 2 saturdays in the month and not to take on too much is the key, as I want to do level 3 also but that will take another 2 evenings a wk for 2 years, not sure what to do there, but dont want tobe held back???

cheers

Only pitfalls for me with mobile are most people want things doing on an evening, which is good if you want to save on childcare costs, and it is also less disruptive for the child as they are usually asleep.

With that I'd mention that although this sounds silly, you MUST book yourself some nights off each week. It got to a point once where I worked every night MOnday - Friday. Hubby became daddy day care after work. Clients sometimes can be pushy in terms of they want this date as they have this event. Stick to your guns. A good thing to say is is you are fully booked on a certain day. They can't argue with that or get you to change it!

I also work so many weekends, I have to book off a weekend to give myself a break and clients' dont' like it!

The other thing is it is quite tiring going out to work on an evening, as you have looked after little one(s) all day. You also have to get things ready for each client.

Saying that I've been mobile for 7 years, and tbh I love it. It's my little bit of freedom away from the family life and problems, when I get to my clients I really do put all my effort into my treatments and making them feel good.

It's an ideal vocation as a mum.
