Run a small (i.e. wife and I) high end (i.e. botox and dermal fillers)beauty business. Business is starting to pick up after a quiet start but we're still not in profit.

Anyway, been invited to a trade show as an exhibitor. Its £129+vat which doesnt sound too bad.

Has anyone ever been to one of these? Did you get extra business?

Also, they give me a 3ft table and electricity. What would I need? A table banner, some leaflets and stuff to give away for free I guess? Any ideas for cheap branded stuff to give away?

That sounds very reasonable! Where is the trade fair?

I'm doing Beauty UK next month at Birmingham NEC; it cost around £750 + VAT for a 2m x 2m stand, but then you have to pay for extras like electricity (£160 + VAT for a 500W socket and 3 spotlights!!!) and whatnot.

So no ideas whether it will bring in that much in the way of extra business or what, but I am certainly hoping it will!!!

Is that a trade-only show or open to Joe Public too?

But yes, the trade-only shows like Beauty UK, Olympia Beauty, Pro Beauty, etc, do tend to be that sort of money... I got a similar quote for a 2 x 2m stand at Olympia Beauty too...

I think its open to the public too.

we have just done the blackpool hair show, a 2 x 2 stand was just over £600 for the two days....it was really succesfull day, shame half of it went on costs but already we are getting orders from the show..We were only selling hair gemz on our stall, but a lot of other stalls were selling the same stuff, ie lots selling scissors and they were on stands that rented for well over £1000...so they must think they are worth doing..
We just really wanted to see if hair gemz were going to be popular before spending more money and it was a gamble...but pleased we did it has we had great responses..
You won't know if you don't try....other forms of advertising are really expensive too...

I'm going to do a small MBS fair with 150 tables for £35, think its a 6ft table.

what is MBS ????

Mind body and spirit I think xxx

Hi hun, maybe I'm wrong but I would expect health and wellbeing to be full of natural health care, and to attract people who would want things like crystal healing, massage, aloe vera etc.
I think you would do better, if it's joe public you want to target, to go to the wedding fairs.

Hi Ruth, Have you done Birmingham NEC before? We will be there exhibiting for the first time this month with Bioslimming our new slimming wrap product. What are you exhibiting?

I've been to the Beauty UK show before, but this will be the first show ever that I will be running an actual stand at! And my stand will be exhibiting salon software and web solutions.

Same here, this will be the first Beauty show that I have exhibited at. What's your stand number and I will come along and say Hi !

It's F49 - I think it's fairly near the nail competition area; will be nice to see you :)

We are at H43 which is probably not far from you. I have never been to Beauty Uk before is it usually a busy show? We were at Excel in March and it was packed.

Oh yes, I was at Excel in March too; I was modelling for a waxing demo and the pedicure competition - it was *well* packed wasn't it!

the birmingham show is usually a little calmer than the london ones. i really prefer it . its much better for any attendees that are doing some serious shopping as you can get into the stands to talk to the exhibitors and see demonstrations so that you have a chance to properly assess products and make decisions over which to buy..

do you know what they charge to have a small stand there

A 2m x 2m stand (which is the smallest they do) cost me just over £750 (+VAT) for the Birmingham show, but then there are extra charges for electrics (~£150 + VAT), a barcode scanner (£100 + VAT), insurance (~£90 + VAT) etc - so it works out quite expensive altogether.

You also find that you get "spammed" by all sorts of other random companies too, offering things like plasma TV hire, furniture hire, etc. As for furniture hire, we figured we might as well just bring what we needed ourselves, so we got a nice folding table and chairs from Booker cash & carry that can be used for future shows too - as opposed to having to pay a hire charge every time... and what we paid outright was on a par with what the companies were charging for rental...
