It's my daughters 5th birthday in March, and I plan to make her a cake like the above pic, as her tea party will be all barbie themed, any clues on how I will get my sponge to shape like this?? (I am not the best baker but gonna give it a try!) thanks fellow baker geeks!! :D

My mum used to make wedding and birthday cakes for a living and she made this a few times, find a shop specialising in professional cake making, they should have the mould/tin and barbie kit you can hire/buy :) xxx

Wow didn't know you could hire them thanks chick :)! Xx

Just bake the cake mixture in a bowl! Then flip it upside down stick a Barbie in the middle, use different piping nozzles to create the design on the dress

This is exactly how my mother used to make it..
She used a Pyrex bowl to bake the cake in.

How long would you say to bake for in a bowl? Xx

You could just make and layer a large cake as normal then carve it into the shape of the dress.
There's loads of YouTube videos showing you how to make one

The Pyrex bowl is best. I bought a set of diff sizes from argos . I made a booby cake for my friends 40th. They come out in the perfect dome. The largest (2 litre)bowl prob best sz for Barbie cake.

You could bake it in a Bundt tin, that would be ideal as it already has a hole in the middle.

Or just cut out layers, each one a little smaller towards the top.

Thankyou lady's will post a pic when I do it!! :D

Wow what a lucky little girl to have such a clever mummy! Mine always had shop bought!

You did a fab job Hun! I'm making my little missy a Minnie Mouse cake this year! Last year a made a three tier princess castle with a huge garden and Disney princesses wandering up the garden path! Looked amazing but I have to admit half way through I wanted to cry and just eat the cake instead of decorate it lol!! Hoping this Minnie cake won't be so stressful!! Why do we do it to ourselves lol
