OMG!!!! I've just turned on!!! is this really going to help our industry!?!

i dont really know im a bit worried lol!!! xxx

Hmm there was a BBC3 woman on this site a few months ago trying to get people on here to go on that show... I think the general consensus was that it would be a bad idea for geeks to appear on the show - and that she should have instead focused on "NSS" nail salons using MMA and the damage that they can do to people's nails...

are you still watching, gosh did you see that poor man's nose, I had to turn away when they showed it again and now they are showing a lady having her tongue pierced

I just noticed it's on..I've pressed the record button and will watch it tomorrow - if I dare!!

It konni whats-her-face that was in blue peter presenting it and then that pretty psycologist thats on nearly every thing say how wrong people are wanting to feel better, now onto tannerexics!!

Here we go onto nails now!!! might not be too bad they are talking to a proper nail tech! we'll see

I remember that, I was a bit miffed that someone could ask us to come on national TV and talk about something that went wrong with another beauty company. I am still watching the programme and I think that it is really unfair, this sort of thing makes it more difficult for us therapists to get clients. That said, I think it is important to let people know what the realities could be about beauty treatments. Did you see them filming in Milton Keynes, I hope people don't get the wrong end of the stick and think that the lady got her nail infection from there.

that was scarey:cry:

WOW!! Have to say i found that really interesting! and didnt want it to finish! xxx

On Wednesday I booked two ladies in to have their son's ears pierced this weekend, one of the ladies asked whether I had a certificate because she wanted to be sure that I knew what I was doing and I reassured her that I will bring my certificate with me, she went on to tell me about a friend of hers whose son had his tongue pierced and it went terribly wrong so she just wanted to make sure, well I tried and tried to call her to confirm the appointment to no avail, I hope she didn't see the programme on BBC 3

I didnt see it, was it a one off programe?
shame ive missed it. x

Negative press isnt a bad thing for us!

Why do therapists see that educating the general public on what can go wrong as a bad thing. Or is it just a few bad therapists scared their name will come up on the show.

The truth is there are bad therapists out there, a lot of them untrained or have passed on a fast track course who just went out there alone.

Im not saying all therapists who do quick courses are bad. But experience and talent accounts for a lot!

Look on these shows as a good thing, as something positive for us good therapists. It will help put cowboys out of business and keep us good therapists with a good reputation.

If one show can make people think twice and ask to see our certificates or insurance etc or even ask us more questions about their treatment to put their mind at ease then they are going to put at ease and be in safe hands.

If they go to an unisured or unqualified therapist who cant provide this info then she can walk away and try somewhere else. But if she wasnt educated and didnt know any tom, **** or harry can open a salon then she could be in danger. And if she went for a wax and got burnt or was in excrutiating pain throughout or if she had her natural nails filed off by a dodgy nail tech, she will never venture into a salon again!

I agree that these shows should give a message to the viewers that injuries are few and far beween but to ensure they get a professional treatment they should tell them what to look out for.

Use this show to your advantage and write a piece for local rag on what clients should look for in a good salon. It not only gives you free advertising but raises awareness and also makes clients of other salons really look at what there therapists are doing.

I have been to tons of salons where the wax pot is covered in that much wax its gone grey and you cant see the original heater underneath.

Educating clients should be our job too, so embrace things like this as a good thing and hope the government takes note and regulate our industry. But at the minute I suspect old gordon brown has enough on his plate lol!

I'm not against any programmes that educate people, but when they come up with titles such as "when beauty goes wrong" it already gives the wrong impression:smack:, and then only have 2 professionals giving advice on situations, I know the bride story was bad, but at no point did they say "you should expect /ask for a patch test before a treatment", there was only some bit that were "helpful" but I still think there was a bit of scare-mongering.

But thats just my thought!!!:green:
