On Thursday I have my final assessment of a lux manicure, with a dark polish and polish secures but I'm completely stuck for designs/ideas etc.

What colour could I do that would be noted as a dark polish? Client (friend) doesn't want black, blue dark red or purple. Also I know I have asked this before but what is a polish secure? Is a rhinestone/pearl attached with polish a polish secure? Bullion beads?

Any hints/tips/advice/ideas or photos would be appreciated. I'm having a bit of nail artist block! :o

I don't know what polish secure means... but how does your client feel about brown? Like Shellac's Fedora colour? If she doesn't like that, I don't think there's much of a choice out there for her in the dark range.. lol Maybe dark green?

Would she feel different if the colours had a slight shimmer to it? Black looks totally different when you add a coat of shimmery silver to it. It turns into black metal, and it's very sexy. Same effect with any other dark colour.

IDK what a "polish secure" is either, but she is really knockin' you outta the running if she refuses a dark color. Has she said what color she would be willing to try? And if you need something for some type of art--a simple one would be to secure one stone in the center of the smile line with a drop of top coat and then use a contrasting color of polish and a dotting tool to make gradually smaller dots on either side of the stone along the smile line. Simple, easy, elegant. I would go with a dark burgandy polish (like OPI's Bogata Berry and a contrast of their Copper Shine).

Thanks girls.

She hasn't actually said what colour she is willing to wear, she said she'll leave that up to me! She is turning in to a nightmare for these assessments, at least this one will be my last one (fingers crossed).

C-C, I love that idea, I'll look and see what I've got and try and give it a go this week. She will just have to put up with what I put on her nails, she only has to have it on for the three hours we are in college and she is supposed to be doing me a favour!

tbh your so called friend is being a complete nightmare. Just what is her problem?? The simple solution here is do the colour you have to do for your exam and simply remove it straight after. End of problem. If she wants colour then redo it in one of her choice after the exam and seriously I wouldnt consider using her for further exam purposes because you really dont need the added stress. Surely you know other people that would be willing to be a model for you!!

I am known for speaking my mind and this is what I think your friend is being incredibly selfish!!

Just to add you will find actually that people who are willing to be a model actually think they are doing YOU a favour!! They dont even see it that they are getting a free treatment. Thats been my experience anyway!!

Good luck with your exam

A dark fusha pink , tuquise , red ,dark bronze, brown , orangey colors , greens, id class all of these as dark colors only because id class light as translucent pinks pearls and the like, if that makes any scene? Basicly anything that needs more than one coat and gives total coverage
Polish secures could be anything you can attach with a polish lol so you could use dryed flowers over a color sealed with top coat? Or some tiny spangle dots marking out a smile line, or just one color with a tiny gem on both ring fingers would probably pass ,
I agree with the others though your friend is being a bit of a pain! Its just polish and you could remove it straight after if she really doesn't like it ....that or get some one else and just tell her you have to do dark polish on this assessment, or maybe you could client swap with some one else in your class who needed to do there light color assessment?

She is being a pain. I don't think she has given one compliment on all the treatments I have done on her, she has the cheek to say she can do better and might give it a go, and she checks out her nails compared to everyone elses and complains - even when the tutor and other girls on the course say they are fab! She's just one of those girls who thinks they can do everything!

As for the polish I'm going to have a play this week before seeing here again and see what I can do, you gave me some great idas for colours so thank you very much.

she sounds kinda mean ....but you know what ? you can totaly use that to your advantage!
how?
well you WILL get paying clients that are never happy lol learn how to handle them by handling your friend :)
and if she wants to try it her self get her an aplication form ... she prob wont fill it in but if she dose by the time shes finished collage you will have nearly 2 years of nails behind you ;)

Thank you! I never thought of it like that. I have known this girl all my life and she has always been like this, thinking she can do just as well as everyone else.

I will beat this. :D

This is really sound advice, you do learn a lot from painful clients and the more you get during your training the better equipped you are in the professional world. In fact really tbh if I was a tutor in Beauty I would instruct my students to be a mean clients every so often. A bit like role play. I bet students would learn loads!!
