My daughter has just been offered a full time place at hairdressing collage, 2 mins after she's opened the letter she get a call from a salon with a good reputation offering her an apprenticeship BUT it's in house training where an assor comes in every few weeks to asses her, she still comes out with her nvq 2.

I did the old fashioned c&g 1 day a week so this is all new to me and I really don't what to advise her. :Scared:

In house all the way! Especially if try have a good reputation!

She will get a really good feel for it and will know pretty fast if she is going to want to purse it as a career.

She will still achieve a qualification and you learn so much by watching its unreal x

Thank you for your reply, the only think I'm really worried about is colouring, I'm here to help with most somethings but colouring is way beyond me now !

Well if it's a good salon and they look after there staff there are options with the colour range they use to do extra course ect and the best wy to get your head around things is using or being with people who use then frequently. Wish her all the best

In house defiantly! I did in house training with a reputable salon and loved it learnt so much and so fast!!! My employer doesn't employ stylists that have only been college trained as he says they don't get the right experience!

My sister did two years at college doing nvq2 when she finished and got a job in a salon she had to repeat the whole two years. That was ten years ago but every salon she has worked in she still has to do some training. What I'm trying to say it I'd go for salon training if she still comes out with an nvq2 she has nothing to lose! If she goes for another job she has experience when at college you don't!

Just to check you opinions this isn't one day a week at a hairdressing collage it's being trained in the salon and having an assor from a training place in every few weeks to check she's got a good understanding of what she's learning and then being sent out to do colour training ? Just checking ! X

Well I'd imagine colour training would be included in salon and within the assessments that she does but yes the colour brand they use will offer courses.

For example, I initially trained in a salon where staff specialise in either cutting or colour. As trainees we were taught the basic principles of both-I chose to specialise in colour so after 12months it was my choice to stop my cutting training and focus on colouring.

I was also sent on several colouring courses with L'Oreal whilst I was training and after I qualified :)
