I currently do acrylics but wanting to get into gels and coloured gels. I know that coloured gels go over L&P but do you simply start applying coloured gel after using 150grit or do you still put a base layer of clear builder gel on first before colour?(Sorry, not been using gels much since training and totally forgotten!) Also with coloured gel infills, after filing down the colour a bit do you apply clear base layer to just the infill part or the whole of the coloured nail before applying the coloured gel again? I am using NSI coloured gels by the way. x

go to www.nailangel.co.uk and register, they have loads of videos that you will help you with all your questions

Thanks! I really love NSI acrylics but started to do gels on myself as one of my customers is really lifting badly at 3 wks everytime and thought I might try her with gels after road testing them on myself first (my NNO gels been on 3 weeks without lifting!) and think she might go for the colours (Sangria my favourite but I find they chip off on me at the tip/free edge on fingers, need a little more practice). Can you tell me Tracey, do you just Glaze n Go on top of your colours leaving the tacky layer on as on video with no chipping ? Wondered if I might sandwich the colour and put a top layer of gel over and then Glaze n Go might help me? Any advice appreciated. x PS love your work

thankyou.
yes i do just apply the coloured gel over the acrylic and then apply glaze n go straight over the top if there is no need for me to file anything i.e the free edge can sometimes be a bit thick so after wiping with cleanse i will just use my 180 grit file very lightly to thin it out then apply glaze n go.
make sure you cap the free edge as this can lead to chipping if its not done.
another thing ive just learnt is to apply perma gloss primer over the acrylic as this is made to help give better adhesion between acrylic and gel although i have never needed to do this so far.x

Thanks Tracey, yes could just be a capping issue. I will try colours again on mine first. I hate doing my own nails, just done a gel infill today on mine, really impressed with NSI gels though. I love their acrylic too! I went mobile 3 months ago (qualified 2 yrs ago but took ages to take the plunge! ). I still (on occasion) have difficulty with zone 3 when doing acrylics and wondering if this is causing ladies lifting (think I may get bead too wet rather than too thick?) Any advice appreciated. I hate to think it might be me causing the lifting and she says she looks after them at home (?) x

i also love nsi gels, ive just treated myself to some more coloured acrylics though and i must say im loving them.
one of the most likely causes for lifting especially at the cuticle area is prep.
i thought i was doing it thoroughly using vanish etc.. but some kind geeks told me that although you can see some of the cuticle on the nail has been removed it can be quite decieving as its built up in layers.i thought i was removing it all but infact i had only removed "some of the layers" because after there infill the client would come back with no lifting where as the fisrt time they did.x

Mmmm, thought my prep was fine and I have other L&P clients with no lifting/very minimal? Did gel practice on a hairdresser friend who had problems keeping her acrylics on (VERYVERY heavy handed, used to bash them, hair dye/peroxide/hair spray would fetch them off ,glue them back on, nightmare)then I practiced gels on her and had not one lift in 3 wks (she's so happy with them-never kept nails on before) so I'm presuming not my prep as gels would have lifted too and must be my application method when doing L+P? Thanks for the reply. x
