I am slightly confused. I was under the impression that uv lamps and lights were used to cure gel enhancements. But I recently saw a video on YouTube where acrylic french style nails were completed and then a sprinkle of silver sparkle was applied to the free edge and then placed under the lamp.
So am I right by saying that lamps can also be used to cure 'accessories' over acrylic nails?

have you got a link to the video on youtube? did they put a gel topcoat on 1st then sprinkle?

YouTube - Acrylic Nails

This is the link to the video. I think she may have, but I still thought that uv lamps were only used for gel?

She has just done a straight l&p application but finished it with a gel finishing gloss:) So yes the lamps are to cure gel but it doesn't just have to be a straight gel application lots of people now finish L&P this way to reduce the amount of buffing needed.

i didnt see her sprinkle any silver on hun, i think that may have been mixed in the powder. The topcoat looks like it is just a normal gel topcoat hence it being cured under the uv lamp. Gel topcoat can be applied over liquid & powder nails, to give a perminant high shine. hth

oh right, so uv lamps can be used on acrylic as well as gel then?
Thanks for your help.

d'oh your quicker at typing than me sam lol

Only if you use a gel topcoat over the L+P, a lamp isnt needed otherwise.

Right Ive got it now. Thanks for all your help.

May I just add to this question......does one need to use the lamp then when 'permagloss' or such like is used?....what is the best strength of wattage for the lamp?...thanks :)x

Yes, Permagloss ia also a UV Top Coat and need to cure in a UV lamp, it is made to use on L&P nails :)

The wattage has no bearing regarding the curing, wattage refers to the power the lamp uses, the UV output is the important thing when considering which UV lamp to use... if you want to use Permagloss then get the UV lamp that's recommended for it.

Permagloss is a gel top coat hence needing a UV lamp to cure it. The same principles apply to a UV lamp whether you are using a full gel system or just a gel top coat.
