Hi

I have a client who has very congested skin. She has mila, open and closed comedones mostly on the cheeks and forehead. When doing extraction, the sebum that comes out is hard or thick yellow. She gets the occasional spots, very small red ones, most without a pus tip.

She does not wear makeup regularly. When she is in the sun the congestion is excerbated. She avoids the sun and wears spf daily. She uses a combination of Environ and Dermalogica products.

We have been doing facials every 2 weeks using galvanic and high frequency. The skin is good for one week and by the second week the congestion starts again.

On the last facial I noticed her scalp was very irritated, red patchy rash like. Does not look like psoriasis or eczema. She has not changed her hair products for a long time and uses a good brand.

We discuss nutrition and diet and she is eating well. She has no known allergies or food intolerance. I am not sure if she is going through a stressful time?

I suggested that she might see a nutritionist, she is going to see one.

Is there anything else I can do?

Less is more - without actually seeing her skin it is very difficult to assess adequately or recommend the correct treatment. However, what I did notice is that she is using two types of product. Dermalogica and environ, which may be actually contributing to the problem. That is not in any means meant to reflect badly on the brand of products, but they are both very different, one more plant based than the other (of which I am not a huge fan) - plant extracts that is! I would advise her to stick to ONE type of product with the minimal ingredients. I would be interested in HOW MANY products of each brand she is applying also - and pehaps try her on LESS - mainly a deep cleanser, moisturiser and SPF being the most important. hth.
