Hi everyone, im currently a nail tech but im considering doing more courses, im really interested in nvq level 3 massage and not beauty therapy because im not really interested in electrical body treatments, anyway just wondering if the demand for massage/holistic therapists is high or not? iv had a look at recruitment pages and most salons etc are looking for therapists who are qualified in electrical treatments, thanks in advance! :)

Generally most salon and spa positions will want you to have level 2 and 3 because you will obviously be worth more to them the more versatile you are.
If you just want to work on your own then your success will depend on you like everything else.

Massage will often take time to be good at , although some people have a natural apptitude, it also requires a good degree of strength and stamina ,there is also a lot to know on the theory side to know for a level 3 the anatomy is quite in depth.

What is good about holistics is that it seems to be endlesss what you can learn. If you look at Hippy chicks profile she has learnt and now teaches all sorts of strange and wonderful treatments. You can never get bored.

Its also very rewarding when you think that stress is a major factor affecting peoples health and state of mind, to help ease that can make a huge difference to peoples lives and they are always very grateful.

thanks for replying, i have level 2 in nail technology and have diplomas in waxing, facial massage/skincare and eyelash and eyebrow treatments, that i did at the same training place as nails, so i could go onto level 3 straight away? even when i offer hand and feet massages when doing nails its my favourite part of the treatment so im very excited to do this course x

I see well i usually advise to go the electrical route because you will still do massage and you can do other holistics in short courses but you don't usually find electricals done as a short course so you may not ever get the opportunity to learn it which in the long run could mean that some jobs will not be open to you.

Hi, I think you need to think about what you ultimately want to do and how you want to work. If you are wanting to be more beauty orientated and work for others then the beauty 3 will be your best option for career development. However, I started in holistics and have slowly filtered the beauty side in. For me massage is my passion and I love incorporating it into every thing i do. My facials for example contain a huge amount of massage, and to be honest it is my massage that has built my business and remains my busiest treatment.
As has already been mentioned you will need to do anatomy & physiology which if you haven't got a lot of interest in can be hard going and massage itself can be quite physically demanding but if you can get by those little hurdles then i personally dont think any treatment can give the same level of satisfaction and achievement.

Sorry for the essay but i hope it helps.

You would only really be able to go straight on to Level 3 if the diplomas you already have were from the same awarding body as the Level 3 course. Hope that makes sense.:)

thanks for you replies, i have done some of the anatomy and physiology when i did c&g l2 in nail tech, i dont mind that at all, its just the electrical treatments im not keen on, if im not interested in something like electrical treatments it will probably come across as i dont, and i dont want to provide a treatment that im not totally passionate about if you know what i mean, but i understand by having that iv got more options of where to work. Its something il have to think about! thanks again x
