Is there such a thing as a true gel polish as confused by all if this

I'm converting to cuccio, I was a CND girl but I really like the fact they have a fuse layer, more colours and I can get it locally. My trainer with 12 years in the industry says they are on par, pros and cons to both, personally I think that it depends on you, your clients the area you are in.
