i have opened my own small salon a few months ago and am now looking to start doing some new treatments, such as ear piercing...

is it popular with clients and how much does it cost to do training and set it all up???

thanks

Hi, Im not in a Salon im mobile so cant be sure, but I would not have thought it's a massive money earner, fairly cheap to train in though, around £50 with a kit I think. So wouldn't do any harm.
What sort of treatments do you offer already? Have you got a website?
Lash extensions, spray tanning and Minx nails are really popular treatments at the moment, so if you dont offer those perhaps have a look into them? xx

Hi not to expensive, know nsi do a caflon course think its about £20.00ish kits about £50. You will also have to register with your local council and they charge a fee in some areas.

Good luck x

Hi, I do ear piercing and found it to be a relatively low start up cost (£100ish including Kit) Can't remember what I was charged to register with council but it wasn't alot. I charge £8.50 including earcare solution ( that was about average for my area) once you are up and running its a worthwhile thing to offer as clients can be in and out in 10-15 mins and its a good profitable business! I trained at Dennis Williams with estelle although to be honest wish i'd gone with caflon as found estelle to be a little slack afterwards (didn't receive certificate and could never get prices for anything!) Caflon seem to be easier to get hold of and they stock it at both my wholesalers! xx

Hi, I also trained with Estelle at college but it's REALLY difficult to get new studs. I recently bought an Inverness trial kit from the beauty show at the NEC it was only a fiver including the piercing instrument and 1 stud set (with earrings, wipes, pen etc) and some non sterile practice studs and a fake ear! i tried it out on my friends sister and she's had no problems at all, the studs are much finer than normal piercing studs and the instrument is hand powered (like the studex 75(?)) so there's no bang or popping noise. once you get confident it's a really quick treatment to offer.

We stopped doing this is our salon. to many people asking for quite young children to be done. Something we did not morally like, so we turned them away.

yeah i've had a few asking me to pierce babies, the girl i used to work for used to pierce babies ears....i personally REALLY don't like this. i refuse to pierce anyone who is too young to understand what will happen and what they've got to do to look after them and more importantly make the decision for themselves... if the parents aren't happy then that's fine, they can go somewhere else to someone who's happy to do it, i just don't like the idea.

thanks everyone for your advice...

another thing i was wondering was:

does anybody use the ear piercing system that uses plastic studs rather than metallic???....
i've seen it somewhere before but can't remember the name of it... is a good idea i think... less risk of allergies.

i trained to do caflon ear piercing, it cost me about £10 for the training, about £40 for initial kit and another £20 ish for extra aftercare solutions and wipes, plus £90 to register my room with the local council.
it can be very profitable, i charge £10 including a bottle of solution and it only takes me about 10 minutes to do! x
