I'm new to salon geek and so not sure if this is the right forum for this question - apologies for posting this a couple of times!

I am looking into a home learning nail technician course, I wonder if anyone has any recommendations?

I have discovered a couple of courses but they are all assessed by written papers with nothing practical included. I want something more practical but am unable to commit to an evening class as my free evenings vary each week. Has anyone done a course with Essential Nails that can let me know how they found it?

I'm wanting something that covers the basics of skin and nail anatomy and basic manicures but from the website I can't tell if they do this as well or if they only cover the enhancements. Also, does the course cover enhancement removal? Or do I need to get the nail maintanence course for this! I also would love to hear from anyone who could recommend something similar that can be learnt from home (again, I am unable to do a course at college at the moment). I am in the UK so need something that is recognised here.

These sort of courses have been discussed at length before and it boils down to a few points:

Nails is a hands-on skill which ideally is taught in a hands-on environment
Home learn courses can give you a grounding but have their limitations in what you can learn
Some major companies don't recognise home learn qualifications so if you wanted to train with then in the future you will need to start from the beginning again

If a college course is not practical why don't you look at training with a product manufacturer? Their Foundation Courses tend be held over 4 or 5 days so it's a mroe intense way of learning than college. CND, EzFlow, NSI, Young Nails and others all offer foundation training.......

there are many techs on here that have done one or more of the essential nails courses and have successfully gone on to work successfully....at the end of the day...what ever course you do...(providing its a reputable one) if you are dedicated, committed and motivated then you too will be successful.

Many on here describe Essential Nails as a starting block/stepping stone....this is perhaps true...but then so are ALL the foundation courses in that case...at the end of the day...whatever reputable stepping stone you take...after that its experience you need...and no course can give you that!

P.s. Education never ends..there's always something else to learn and discover!
